School does a lot for you, you're being ungrateful.
No, you won't use a microscope to look at a cheeseburger. Why would you even work as a waiter/waitress making minimum wage and not having enough to live comfortable?
The point of school isn't to just learn the facts, it has a lot of other hidden messages. Also, the better you do, you can get a career in any field depending on what you like.
That's the beauty of it, I can't say you won't become anything, even if it's something ridiculous to find cells in a cheeseburger.
Anyway, you may want to step up your GPA. 2.9 isn't great and I wish I didn't **** around all through school. It was easy, but I didn't try. The only reason I'll get accepted into colleges is because of my SAT scores.

I didn't have a problem with School.

School might have changed a bit since I was there and I might have found it easy because of my Eidetic memory which meant I didn't really have to revise at all for exams. So this might be a biased opinion, but school prepares you socially as well as providing you with knowledge. Schools gives you routine, the type of routine you will keep for the rest of your life.

If you didn't have School, you would probably stay up all night and sleep all day which is detrimental to your health, I dare go as far as to say that without school, most of your generation would have severe health problems related to sleep deprivation aside from the fact a lot of them would be rather stupid.

You probably spend a considerable amount of time on a computer, more than your peers anyway, so you have access to information that you feel you need and have the interest to actually remember, which is probably why you have this opinion that you don't need School.

Like I've said though, School teaches you more than just facts and figures. It teaches you how to form opinions on real world problems, it teaches you how to be socially sound when you enter a job. It teaches you respect for your elders which will turn out to be bosses and professors in college and university.

School is more than just a building you go to every day in order to learn some useless information for an exam which lets you get a menial, dead end, low paying job for the rest of your life.

Rezde wrote There really is no point in school, besides the fact that everyone wants to give you a job if you have high grades.

I'm in the 9th grade, I have a 2.9 GPA, and I think I'm doing fine. But, lately I've been thinking, what is the point of school?

At what point are we going to use all of this that we are learning? Do we NEED to know that Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879? Like say you're a waitress when you're grown, are we going to pull out a microscope and look at how many cells are in a cheeseburger?

We are always worried about the future, in every point in our lives. Now we worry about our adulthood. In our adulthood, we are worried about whatever comes next. I mean, why does everyone worry so much? Not to sound like the average kid of this generation, but live for the moment, have fun.

I hope this topic doesn't get flamed, I'm really interested in this topic.

Alright, so here's the thing. Education is the key. You NEED education. Why? For a countless number of things, but let's start with your future. I think you're understating how important school is for your future. Look at most people who are currently making contributions to society, and most who are doing what they love. Guess what? They went to school. Without education, statistics show that you will live a life with a lack of money. Wouldn't you like to live a life without having to worry about if you have enough for this, or enough for that? If you want to work at a minimum wage, crappy restaurant job for the rest of your life, then that's great. It's your life. But, education is the key. You spend about 14 or so years of your life in school. The average life expectancy is in the 70's and 80's for most developed countries. Do the math. You live much more of your life out of school rather than in it, which is why you want to make sure that you don't have a crappy life once you graduate, which is also why you want to go to school to make sure that doesn't happen.

Also, the thing is, school teaches you a lot of things, like social skills, teamwork, co-operation, responsibility, hard work, etc, which is also why it is important. You say that you should live life in the moment, but how much could you have done, and how much of a social life would you have if school didn't exist at all?

School also allows you to interact with other people which can help you if you are looking to be a salesperson and basically every job that involves helping others.

I absolutely hate to bring this up on a topic like this, but didn't Bill Gates drop out of High school?

Then again, I also hate when kids use this as an excuse for doing bad in school.
Not everyone is Bill Gates.

Dude. Trust me. I am 19 and I've been out of school for 2 years now. I was doing the military life until things went south there and I ended up in the working world. Needless to say, YOU DO NEED SCHOOL even for the most basic job. I never imagined how useful the stuff I learned was until afterwards when I actually had to use it. Don't complain about school one bit. The real world blows. Being in school is the best thing you could be doing with your life right now as a teenager. Without a doubt. Cherish it while you can because once it's over you will miss it.

Not everyone is Bill Gates.

He dropped out of Harvard to be exact. But let's face it, that guy, like Jobs and Zuckerberg, is an outlier. Sure, he didn't need university, but he was extremely intelligent, creative, entrepreneurial, a visionary. Not everyone can or is Bill Gates. For every 1 success story of a person who dropped out, you have millions more that did go to college and did become successful as well. Also, for every 1 success story of a person who dropped out, you have hundreds of thousands of more people that dropped out but weren't successful in life.
