Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 campaign can hardly hit 60fps on PS4 & Xbox

4.6
Black Ops 3’s campaign does not adhere to the golden 60fps rule Call of Duty games have always followed.

Digital Foundry published its analysis of the campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. In it, the site reveals that the game struggles to reach 60fps most of the time.

Having tested both the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, Digital Foundry reveals that for most cut-scenes, Black Ops 3 mostly maintains 1080p quality. For gameplay segments, however, things get much worse.

The Xbox One version targets a resolution of 1600×900 for gameplay, but rarely hits it according to the site – running mostly at 1280×900 in= reality. The PlayStation 4 version fares better with its mostly-active 1080p lock, dropping down to 1360×1080 occasionally.

Frame-rate is a disappointment across the board, especially for a Call of Duty game. Digital Foundry reports that despite dynamic resolutions, Black Ops 3 reaches 60fps only during spots where combat is not a major component.

“On the face of it, the raw metrics we drew from our captures don’t look so bad – PS4 hands in an average frame-rate of 51fps, Xbox One is at 49fps,” the site noted.

“And it’s Xbox One where we see the most extreme scenarios where Treyarch’s precarious balancing act doesn’t really work out. A frantic shoot-out defending a control room is a low point: while PS4 sticks close to 60fps at various moments throughout the battle, Microsoft’s system frequently struggles to rise above the 35-45fps.”

That sucks for people with last gen consoles but you would think they would at least work on it a little more for at least for bo3 cause not everyone can afford 300-400 for a console.

60z a week ago y'all were laughing at the 360 not hitting 60fps lol. I feel like this game could have had more work

"I'm glad they stopped working on the 360, the last gen holds us back". -Everyone last week with a new console

nah that's not what I seen for the most part. People were making fun of people on last gen

This is shitty because I love playing campaign. I do that before I even play the online multiplayer.

Not like I play campaign anyways, neither would I really care.

RepBandit to lighten the mood. I thought there wasn't a campaign?

Dan- And this is the problems with consoles. It's 2015 and they can't even manage 60FPS at native 1080p.

want to know why they cant its cause they use amd(suck a bad produce for cpus since they are getting sued for false advertisement) the one and ps4 are using the worst if not one of the worst cpus as its an old one plus their consoles no big deal they should of never been 60fps anyways but yeah its sad that even for a weak game like cod/bf/bf(both battle field and battle front are bf) cant really hit that 60mark unless theirs nothing around.

lol

You PCMR kids really are blinded by your own ignorance aren't you?
-To call out all people who play on PC as ignorant really shows what kind of person you are, and also goes against what you say at the bottom of your post, but we aren't going to get into that here.

Are PCs better than consoles performance wise? Yes. But then again, you're also paying for that extra performance.
-Last I checked, $500 should be able to get you the standard fps and resolution.

when it comes to CPU performance... A similar comparison would be pitting a laptop mGPU against a desktop dGPU, night and day.
-The Jaguar has 8 cores, most laptops only have 2. So, that point is invalid.

Anyone who says they can build a PC from scratch that has everything you need and has equal if not better performance as a current-gen console for the price of an X0/PS4 is lying. omits an OS.. and only includes the mobo, gpu, cpu, hdd, ram, psu and a case. There's no keyboard, no mouse, no monitor, no speakers, no CD/DVD drive etc.
-Ok, but what about Xbox Live? You still need an ethernet cord unless you buy a wireless, and then you still have to buy XBL Gold to play online, and you have to buy a TV, controller recharge kit, and headphones all of which will cost you just about the same as PC peripherals.

Btw, I'm just gonna leave this here for you, it's based off of BO3 requirements to run off of 60fps 1080p best part is, it's only $399.3 USD, enjoy!

"To call out all people who play on PC as ignorant really shows what kind of person you are, and also goes against what you say at the bottom of your post, but we aren't going to get into that here."

I didn't say everyone who plays PC is ignorant, I said people who follow the PC master race bandwagon are usually ignorant, and my comment was mainly direct toward the person I quoted.

"Last I checked, $500 should be able to get you the standard fps and resolution."

Neither the Xbox One nor the PS4 cost $500 though.

-That's what I paid for mine, when they first launched. $400 for PS4. But whatever price they are at now should be able to get you industry standard otherwise why even release next gen?

"The Jaguar has 8 cores, most laptops only have 2. So, that point is invalid."

My fault, I mean't to say GPU, not CPU. My point still stands.

-Laptops have integrated gpus with the average being 512mb, laptops aren't built for gaming, they are built for facebook, web browsing and other small applications. That's why the general laptop only has 2 core cpus because small applications wouldn't take advantage of the 4 cores and end up losing performance. So no your point has been tripped and is falling down the stairs.

"Ok, but what about Xbox Live? You still need an ethernet cord unless you buy a wireless, and then you still have to buy XBL Gold to play online, and you have to buy a TV, controller recharge kit, and headphones all of which will cost you just about the same as PC peripherals."

Man you're really reaching here. No, you don't need an Ethernet cable, all current-gen consoles are wireless. The only reason I mentioned an Ethernet cable to begin with was because I said "and anything else you may need", as in extra cables, adapters or any other peripherals. As for gold, no you don't need it but you probably will end up buying it at some point. That does add up over time and in the long run will come in line with the price of a nice custom build so that's definitely something to consider.

-You do have to buy an ethernet cord unless you get a wireless modem/router. I'm not reaching I was just throwing it out there. Most games are primarily focused on having Xbox Live Gold or PS+ so in order to get the full potential out of a gaming console you have to pay for it. Where as with Steam, Origin, or Battle.net (not talking WoW) you won't have to pay for any kind of online service anywhere in the near future.

"You have to buy a TV"

Really? Who doesn't have a TV in their house that doesn't have at least ONE HDMI port to plug into?

-I have 2 PC's and one is connected to my TV, and I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. So you're point about needing a Computer monitor is not necessarily true. Btw, the GPU i listed in my post has an hdmi port so you can use that with your tv.

"controller recharge kit" Nope, batteries work fine. I bought one myself though, it's a sound investment but not a necessity.

-But you have to buy the batteries, or rechargeable batteries with a rechargeable kit. Either way still costs about the same as a recharge kit.

"And headphones all of which will cost you just about the same as PC peripherals"

Nope, both the Xbox One and PS4 come with a microphone with every console, you're reaching again. No, this will not cost the same as PC peripherals, I don't know where you do your shopping but an HD-TV (which again, you shouldn't have to buy -- most people have a TV) alone is more expensive than a mouse and keyboard, speakers and a monitor (unless you get a sizable one and not a generic brand.)

-LOL!!! You think the headset that I posted is crappy? I used that for about 2 years and never had a problem with it! But speaking of crappy how about the uncomfortable Xbox mic YUCK! Plus if you ever want to upgrade to a an actual headset you have to get an attachment for your controller or upgrade to a different "PRO" controller that's priced unreasonably.

I'm not even going to go into detail about that build. You had $400 to work with, so instead of getting a 500GB/1TB hard drive, you get a 250 gig drive and throw in a $10 gaming headset that's a piece of junk. Why? Six gigs of RAM? Both consoles have 8. Then there's that case, eww.

-I wasn't basing the build off of $400 actually. I just went online and made a quick build around the Black Ops 3 Requirements to play at 60fps at 1080p. If you would have read the entire post you would have seen that. That's why I put 6gb of ram in there, and btw here's a cheaper 500gb hard drive just to settle your ruffles. It's also a tad bit cheaper too, so the build actually comes out to be $384 USD. Dang, aren't I a good budgeter? :D

Man I'm not trying to put you or anyone else down but that build proves my point. You're not going to build a console killer PC for the price of a console. Not unless you get some crazy sales going and cheap out on a case or a PSU (which you really shouldn't be doing anyway).

-Technically it is a console killer if it can beat a console... Have a nice day! :D

Think what you want bud. I'm trying to be civil but you continue to act pretentious and mock me so I'm done here.

Lol! I'm acting pretentious? I'm just pointing out facts in a jokingly manner while you're throwing out insults and mocking my super budget build as well as mocking and ridiculing other people's posts. So instead of acting like a hypocrite, getting mad because things aren't going in your favor, and saying you're "done" you should have just left the post alone and went about your day. Because now you just made yourself look like an even bigger dick. *drops the mic*
