Elder Scrolls Online requires Xbox Gold, but not PS Plus

4.6
PS4 version can be played with single monthly fee, yet Xbox One edition requires two subscriptions

The PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription, Bethesda has confirmed.

Usually, Plus membership is required to access online play on Sony's console, thus there was the possibility that PS4 owners would be required to pay two separate monthly payments in order to play the MMO.

However, it's now been confirmed that PS4 owners will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay.

Conversely, Microsoft has confirmed to Joystiq that the Xbox One version will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

Bethesda previously claimed it was hoping the service could work on both systems.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to release for PC and Mac on April 4, 2014 (4/4/14), followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2014.

Those who purchase the MMO will receive unlimited access for the first 30 days following activation. Beyond that, a subscription of $14.99/month (€12.99 / £8.99) will be required.

In a new PlayStation Blog fan Q&A Bethesda confirmed that ESO servers will be split between region (Europe and North America) and platform, so PC and Mac players will not be able to play with PS4 users and vice versa.

An Elder Scrolls Online beta will launch on PlayStation 4 "later this year".

They need to lower that price in general, console mmo that needs a subscription is taking it a bit too far imo.

Heir It's already 15$ a month for elder scrolls online, another 5$ for XBL?

Wow.

Glad I went with PS4.

Must be too rich for you I guess?
I am only paying 3 more a month with it so I really don't see a big problem.

You so realize just because you are wealthy doesnt mean you burn through money? Probably not, there is a reason the rich stay rich, they spend a fraction of their money, and invest well. They still look for deals where they can be found, it's ludicrous to pay $5 more a month when it can be avoided. For example Warren Buffet lives in a small, inexpensive house yet he is worth more than you many times over.

I'm pretty sure most people who buy ESO play other games online; thus most likely already have XBL/PSN. So it really comes down to if people are willing to pay $15/month just to play one game.

daRealRush I am glad I went with PS4, that means I only have to pay $15 a month!!

That's $180 a year! For one single game! I'd rather buy XL Gold for $60 a year which comes with a free game every half month.

I would of played this game if it wasn't for that, I simply can't afford that much money for one game.

Yeah it sucks it's gonna cost $60 and $15 a month, but that's what WOW costs before and mostly everyone tried and played that. But I'm gonna give it a shot hopefully it's any enjoyable game.

wow they really **** this game up so bad. I would have been happy to pay the 60$ for the game but that fee is a no go, That on top of xbox live gold is just lame, the game shouldn't have a monthly fee for **** sake it is their first MMO and they are gona do this to all their fans. All hope is lost in this game for me.

Personnally this game looked great and then it killed itself. Really bethesda at $14.99 a month subscription when im already paying $600 for the game. And to those who are complaining about the xbox live issue. You can easily get a month of xbox live for 1-3$ and other plans. i Got a 1 year card on amazon for $20. and Best buy has deals monthly on them.

I do think it should be cheaper than $15 a month, like maybe just $5 a month! or $6 a month...
