Elder Scrolls Online requires Xbox Gold, but not PS Plus

PS4 version can be played with single monthly fee, yet Xbox One edition requires two subscriptions

The PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription, Bethesda has confirmed.

Usually, Plus membership is required to access online play on Sony's console, thus there was the possibility that PS4 owners would be required to pay two separate monthly payments in order to play the MMO.

However, it's now been confirmed that PS4 owners will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay.

Conversely, Microsoft has confirmed to Joystiq that the Xbox One version will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

Bethesda previously claimed it was hoping the service could work on both systems.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to release for PC and Mac on April 4, 2014 (4/4/14), followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2014.

Those who purchase the MMO will receive unlimited access for the first 30 days following activation. Beyond that, a subscription of $14.99/month (€12.99 / £8.99) will be required.

In a new PlayStation Blog fan Q&A Bethesda confirmed that ESO servers will be split between region (Europe and North America) and platform, so PC and Mac players will not be able to play with PS4 users and vice versa.

An Elder Scrolls Online beta will launch on PlayStation 4 "later this year".

I can afford the subscription seeing as I have a job, so that doesn't bother me.

That's nice for PS4 users but I bet this only effects very few users. If you have a PS4 that can play online and are not already paying for PS Plus then I doubt you will get this game for the PS4. Since your not willing to pay 50 a year to play online for all games I doubt you are willing to pay $60 and then $15 a month for one game.

That`s seems a little unfair.

That is not as bad as I originally thought it would be.

This is stupid, the xbl is 1/3rd of the price per month, and is generally better than PS+ anyway.

Sweeeeeeet! +1 for Playstation users on this one.

$15/month? $180/year, dang. That adds up. I've never played a subscription based game before, this being the reason. Think I may have to opt out of this one, Bethesda. Loved Skyrim and Fallout, but this is too much money for me.

You can cancel it if you don't like the game anymore/don't play it. You need to be constantly paying for it.

Still $15 is a lot, on top of the Xbox Gold Membership.

Companies take advantage of it because they know people will pay to play. If everyone or a majority of people decided to not play until they lowered it they would change it.

I think $15 is unfair. I can pay $60 for 1 game and play it forever. Paying $15 for 1 month of play time is unbelievable especially since I would play for 1-2 hours a day which would be likes me playing 2-3 days non-stop. Basically $15 is too much. On top of having to pay for the game.

daRealRush I am glad I went with PS4, that means I only have to pay $15 a month!!

That's $180 a year! For one single game! I'd rather buy XL Gold for $60 a year which comes with a free game every half month.
