Elder Scrolls Online requires Xbox Gold, but not PS Plus

PS4 version can be played with single monthly fee, yet Xbox One edition requires two subscriptions

The PS4 version of The Elder Scrolls Online will not require a PlayStation Plus subscription, Bethesda has confirmed.

Usually, Plus membership is required to access online play on Sony's console, thus there was the possibility that PS4 owners would be required to pay two separate monthly payments in order to play the MMO.

However, it's now been confirmed that PS4 owners will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay.

Conversely, Microsoft has confirmed to Joystiq that the Xbox One version will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play.

Bethesda previously claimed it was hoping the service could work on both systems.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to release for PC and Mac on April 4, 2014 (4/4/14), followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2014.

Those who purchase the MMO will receive unlimited access for the first 30 days following activation. Beyond that, a subscription of $14.99/month (€12.99 / £8.99) will be required.

In a new PlayStation Blog fan Q&A Bethesda confirmed that ESO servers will be split between region (Europe and North America) and platform, so PC and Mac players will not be able to play with PS4 users and vice versa.

An Elder Scrolls Online beta will launch on PlayStation 4 "later this year".

I think the reason you always have to pay two different subscriptions for Xbox games like this is because they use the Xbox Live Matchmaking servers and that is a feature you need to have gold to use, so most developers are forced or backed into either making it free on live or charging a separate subscription. Just another way Microsoft rips off its developers.

Sony is possibly saving you 40-60 usd a year for not double charging online services. Wake up xdrone sheeples.

This is unfair. An extra $10 a month won't anyone though.

Dreams tbh i could care less elderscolls is such a good game id pay the extra bit of money for gold, nearly everyone that buys a nex gen console has live anyways

I've always had live since I owned a 360 so it doesn't really bother me. The game is going to be really fun, at least I hope. I'll most likely be buying it either way!

MoBo I think it is much better on PC but console you shouldn't have to pay to go on an online game :/

Yeah. They're screwing console owners over because they have to buy the game for like $60 and then pay $10 a month to actually play it

Actually, you'll have to buy it for $60, pay the $15 for the game subscription, and then the the cost of Gold. So you're paying anywhere from $20 to $25 a month just to play this game on top of the $60 just to buy it. That's **** awful.

I love my PS4, and I love my PC but they rip you off so much for games on consoles! Say I wanted to play a simple game of football on a new console, 350 for the ps4, 50 for the game, 30 p/m on broadband and 35 p/y on PS+ it's not worth it at all...

That's a big part of why I switched over to PC. I hated paying for LIVE and I hated paying $60 for all my games 4 months after they were released. Sure, the initial cost of a PC is more, but in the long run, games are cheaper, the online service is free, and games generally look and perform better than their console counterparts.

Dorkus Microsoft seems to charge for everything, i hope sony changes that for their consoles.

Yeah Me too.
Most Likely Why People Get More ps4s The Xbox Ones...

because people dont acknowledge that xbox charges because they pay to keep there servers running and psn doesnt.

... you have to pay for online on Playstation 4. I believe Sony has to worked so you do not need to pay for PSN for F2P games and to use their apps like Netflix.

I don't pay anything for steam and the servers are just as good, I get better discounts, mods, etc.
