Sony UK has 'pool of stock' to deal with 'dead on arrival' PS4s

4.7
Sony UK has prepared for any malfunctioning PS4 consoles, including the dreaded "blinking blue light" error. PlayStation UK Managing Director Fergal Gara told Eurogamer Sony has a stock of PS4s ready to deal with any consoles that are "dead on arrival."

"One thing we've done within our stock allocation is make sure we've got a pool of stock to deal with any 'dead on arrival' issues," Gara said. "It's not a vast volume, because there's no evidence to suggest we need a vast volume to deal with that. But our consumer services helpline is there to support gamers and solve any problems that do emerge."

When the PS4 launched in North America on November 15, reports of isolated issues started to surface. Now, with the PS4 enjoying the most successful launch week in UK video game history, Sony says the roll-out has benefitted from the extra time between regional launches. "[There has been] no major panic or changes required, but little bits of fine-tuning, not just on our side but also on the publishers' side," Gara said. "So, some small little glitches on some games that can be ironed out, patched and tweaked before it comes into Europe." Gara concluded, "the great news is there isn't anything serious."

CommanderPig Wow thats a ton of ps4's.... XD

They need to send some to the US

Well there was probably a lot of people anticipated for the new console, that they might of ran out of consoles or so.
Barely anyone in the UK is buying the PS4. Their available in pretty much every store...

Someone in the UK that wanted to make extra money should buy and resell on eBay to American consumers, lol.

There is no extra stock around my area unfortunately.

Kurthy353 Everyone talking about the PS4 launch selling more does understand that Microsoft only had so many pre-orders available for the Xbox One and that the PS4 stock was basically unlimited.

Not even close to being unlimited.
I don't think you ever know what the term unlimited means if you think Sony has a endless stock.

At least they are fixing stuff already and they are ready for it

Gossip Atleast they are ready for failure if and when it does come.

Caszech Its great how they prepared for the event of any faulty consoles.

But think about it... Should they have to if they would've took the one extra minute to build them right? Really there shouldn't be a need for replacements when it could've been done right the first time.

Yeah because every newly released electronic never has ANY kinds of faults, so why should the PS4 right? Its not like there are limitless things that could go wrong when mass producing a new product.
(Sarcasm intended)

I get what your coming from but there was over 20,000 products that needed to be replaced which is quite high, but I totally understand what you're saying.

Quite hight for roughly 2 million consoles worldwide seriously?

Agreed the PS4 failure rate was actually really good.

No matter how many consoles were shipped, 20,000 is still a high number for console fatalities. I haven't seen any sort of number like that for XB1. Not saying the XB1 is a better console, but if Sony could have looked into all faults before release this may never have left 20,000 people thinking "why did I buy this console".

This is not sonys fault because it is not softwares fault but hardware which is in mass production and as always in a rushed production there will be faulty units and dont compare xbox one please

i have heard of many xbone consoles being faulty. check your facts, dont just jump on any chance you can to make a successful business look bad
Actually, reports have proved that all the faulty Xbox Ones were mishandled during delivery which resulted in the disc tray fault. And anyway, they have already been dealt with by Microsoft. It was believed to be under 1000 affected. Also, this was the only main (I don't know if you would call it main, 1000 out of over a million) fault, whereas the PS4 is having mass reports of overheating, blue light of death, unable to boot and a couple more...

Well I heard that they messed up on a gear.
