Some EU PSN passwords reset 'as a precautionary measure'

4.7
Sony has reset the passwords of "a small number" of European PlayStation Network accounts as a "precautionary measure".

In a post on the European PlayStation forums, an online support coordinator said there is "no specific evidence" that any user accounts have been compromised.

"If you have been presented with an incorrect password message today simply select Forgotten Password and reset it," they advised. A follow-up post reads:

We monitor PSN account for any irregular activity. If such activity is detected we will sometimes reset passwords.

This was done purely as precautionary measure and there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised.

Only a small number of users were affected by this and as I said this was precautionary so there is nothing specific to worry about.

I cant provide any further details as this would affect out ability to keep you guys safe.

If anyone has any concerns about there PSN account drop me a PM or give PlayStation Support a call.

You should also contact Support if you are unable to reset your password for any reason.

Sounds like they were having some security problems

Cyimking So if MS told everyone to reset their password... is it going to get bash like the PS4? My god.

PS never told them to reset them. They reset them for the costumers, and then got them to reset it again with their own password.

If MS told people to reset their password, it most likely wouldn't be for an awful "Precaution of compromised accouts" situation, it'd most likely be because they haven't changed their password in a certain time length. MS has far better security. Fact.

Sony really don't have the best security, they'd be better if they improved on that.

Frog I'd laugh so much is Sony got hacked already :D

I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen, they had PSN down for a month 3 years ago.

Touchable Sounds like accounts have been compromised, and they're keeping it quiet. Just my opinion...

Indeed.

I've never heard about a company resetting people's passwords unless some have been compromised.
"Small number of users" If it's similar to the percentage of defected consoles, that's still around 6,000+ people probably compromised.

It would destroy their PS4 launch period if they gave full details, I suspect there's more to it than they are letting on.

Although this sucks for anyone affected, I'm really not surprised.

Well the fact that only a certain region have been targeted also /:)
