Some EU PSN passwords reset 'as a precautionary measure'

4.7
Sony has reset the passwords of "a small number" of European PlayStation Network accounts as a "precautionary measure".

In a post on the European PlayStation forums, an online support coordinator said there is "no specific evidence" that any user accounts have been compromised.

"If you have been presented with an incorrect password message today simply select Forgotten Password and reset it," they advised. A follow-up post reads:

We monitor PSN account for any irregular activity. If such activity is detected we will sometimes reset passwords.

This was done purely as precautionary measure and there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised.

Only a small number of users were affected by this and as I said this was precautionary so there is nothing specific to worry about.

I cant provide any further details as this would affect out ability to keep you guys safe.

If anyone has any concerns about there PSN account drop me a PM or give PlayStation Support a call.

You should also contact Support if you are unable to reset your password for any reason.

LaserShow I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't due to all the recent vbulletin hacks, since a lot of people use the same password for different accounts/services!

I have never really thought of this as a reason.. this seems pretty true

Ballpark At least they are trying to fix it. Im not a fan of PSN but its good they are trying.

I'd prefer it if they'd send notification emails out when they were doing this but I really have no issues with the password reset itself.

I'd much rather Sony and everybody else did this at the fist sign there could be an issue then waited. It's a two minute job to reset your password so it's not an issue for me.

The worry for me is that my launch 60GB PS3 had issues with the HDMI connector so I sent it away to be repaired on Tuesday so when I saw there was password issues I had a bit of a panic that the people repairing it were up to something.

As I said, no issues with them resetting but I would prefer a notification of some sort when it happens. I'd like to be able to link my mobile to my account for stuff like this so they could send a text.
