Xbox One party chat accommodates eight 'at launch'

4.5
Xbox One will limit the number of party chat participants to eight at a time, Microsoft has confirmed.

"At launch, up to eight people will be able to join a Party Chat at a time on Xbox One," a spokesperson told Game Informer.

This is the same limitation placed on Xbox 360 and, as Sony has recently confirmed, is also identical to the party chat limit on PS4.

That Microsoft stipulates that the eight-person limit is 'at launch' could suggest a possible party size increase at a later date, but for the time being this remains conjecture.

Xbox One players will not be able to voice chat with Xbox 360 players due to technical differences, but profiles on each console will be visible to the other, and users will be able to exchange written messages between the two systems.

Microsoft released a sound comparison between Xbox One and Xbox 360 voice chat to demonstrate the improved quality on the new console, which uses Skype tech for its voice communication.

I like this, keeps the lag low and hopefully not as hectic.

8 people in a party is fine, it usually gets hectic with anymore than 6 people.

Texans I wonder if xbox one can talk to people on skype on PC???

This would be such a useful feature for me. With this I could play PC games while I Skype with my friends on Xbox, I hope Microsoft do have this feature available.

Don't see it as a problem, game chat has no limits. It's always an alternative.

Vivador The xbox one has better quality, and that's good number for party chat.

yeah it really is. for most online games, you usually dont have more than 6 playing with you, and if you did have more you can easily just go game chat then. and wow there actually is quite a bit of a difference with that audio. i mean i thought it was fine on the 360, very interesting how they improved that

-Hardwell Omg really something they both agree on :) #wow

But then Microsoft said only 8 at launch ... so they will probably make it 10 to beat sony :/ even though 8 people is enough anyway

I think even 4 is overcrowded and rather than push the number of voice spammers higher, just increase the overall voice codec quality, I see no technical reason why we cannot have 44100hz 16bit mono for party chat in all seriousness.

That is why you only invite friends that you know won't be annoying to your party so you won't have multiple voices talking at once.

I think that made the 360 sample a lot worse than it actually is.
Although the Xbox One sample does sound better than the 360 voice quality.
