Microsoft needs to “win the value argument,” over $499 Xbox One

Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg isn’t too worried over Xbox One’s $499 price point, but he does feel that the firm needs to prove why it’s worth the price.

Speaking with GI International, Hirshberg said it’s up to Microsoft to “win the value argument,” but for now, the “win goes” to Sony for it’s lower price.

“If you do a focus group of a gazillion people and you show them two prices for two competitive products, 100% always prefer the lower price,” he said. “I think from a first impression standpoint the win goes to Sony, at least as it relates to pricing. Microsoft is going to have to win the hearts and minds and convince people that the higher price point is worth it, and that it provides really meaningful capabilities that will be meaningful to consumers. And it’s a long game, so I am sure that’s what they intend on trying to do.

“I feel they have to show why that’s a good thing and why it’s worth the premium and deserves inclusion and why it’s something that gamers are going to come to really value and appreciate.

“It’s going to be a fun battle to watch, but I think they definitely have to win hearts and minds in terms of the value of it.”

Xbox One and PS4 are both due sometime in November.

-Cody Price is not the only factor, but if they can convince people that its not they only factor. I think they will get more buyers.
I agree it is no the only factor but to most people it is the biggest factor. I think they need to have a great advertisement campaign to win over some people and if they actually see what they are buying they might get the One instead.

-Brayden Even if Microsoft changed the price, that wouldn't be enough to convince me. Price isn't the only factor in my purchase choice.

So much truth. It all comes down to the preference of the consumer. I doubt many people will worry about their preferred console being $100 more expensive or $100 cheaper

I would still pay an extra $100 if i though the console was better than the PS4. It shouldn't be worrying then too much

Wii_U I Like Both But , I Think Xbox One WILL Be Better

I agree. But the PS4 Might have DayZ :)

DayZ is the worst thing ever created.

That is your opinion but DauZ is/ will be one of the most realistic games ever! (Due to it's specific physics

hahahahahaha I love DayZ but you don't know what you are talking about. DayZ had terrible physics you can break your leg if you jump down 3 stairs but won't even lose health when your heli explodes...

Its going to be a hard argument when their hardware isnt as good as sony's. Their software MIGHT be a little better although sony is completely changing the user interface on the ps4.

Monster-Munch hope the price gets lowerd a bit lol.

This isn't going to happen... this might happen sometime in 2014, but not this year, the year it comes out.

It probably won't even go down in 2014 it might go down a little but probably not alot

I think that the most it will come down will be $50, they can't go any lower then that unless they build it differently.
