Rumor - Next gen consoles may allow developers to self patch games

4.7
The giant issues that stem from the current generation of consoles if that EACH time a developer wants to publish a new patch they are required to submit it through the hardware makers internal QA department. While this at first implies better quality overall what happened was up to two month wait times for game NOT published by AAA studios. A example of this being that a CoD patch would be pushed through in the length of a week while a lesser known and played game like Phantasy Star Universe was plagued with month plus wait times for the patch to reach players.

The entire process means it is quite expensive to publish patches on these platforms. The rumor going around is that on the PS4 and the next xbox developers will be able to self-publish patches due to the devices both having been built with the well established PC x86 architecture. Keep checking back for details on their rumors here at TheTechGame!

-DeadMouse- Well that means updates won't be spaced out we will always have updates

Yeah, thats bad.

It's only bad if you like to glitch and not play the game how it's supposed to be played.

Well, im like that in some games

I glitch sometimes it depends on the glitch

I play legit all the time

no thats not good at all i like doing glitches in games like Black ops 2 zombies and glitches on other games for shits and giggles so i so it is a bad idea to let the developers to self patch when ever because for all we know the always update games and there could be a update every day which would start to take up a lot of memory and that also means that for all the really old games that will come out for the 720 and PS4 there will be no more mods and stuff for really old games so self patching = bad idea

System32 I never really understood why the patches had to be checked... I'm sure they trust ( most of ) the developers?

i think they had to check them to make sure there were no glitches that resulted from the new patch.

Who knows, probably just to verify what they were doing with the game.
