This is a awful accident but you can't blame the cop entirely. I can agree that he shouldn't of shot to kill. The replica looks very similar to the real gun and the child refused to drop the weapon and at that point the cop had no idea if the child planned on shooting anyone.

I do think that he should of waited until the child raised the gun in the position that threatened anyone to take action and shoot him.

It's just a terrible situation.

The cop should've kept shouting at him to put the gun down and done anything he could to get him to, opening fire should've only happened if the kid raised the gun at the officer or anyone else..

Recess wrote This is horrible, the cop should have known whether it was real, R..I.P.

Cops are not trained to "know" which gun is real or not, the are trained to know a gun is a gun and can kill people.

It was a terrible story, but the kid should've put it down and said it's not real.

Might I add, it is Illegal to carry a fake gun anywhere.

Also, I think the cop did what he was trained to do. Unsub (Unknown Subject) with a gun = Danger to people.

Scorpio (kill shot) was only initiated after telling the kid to put it down, which he refused.

Call me heartless, but it is not in the cops job description to know everything about fake guns, only Guns in general.

A boy?! Even if police thought the gun was real they should of at least tried to talk to him, what did they think? as soon as they say anything the kid would have shot them?...Its stupid how people use violence to solve problems and on top of that the gun wasn't even real...

You did not read the whole article, the cops did try to talk to him before the shot was fired, they asked him 2s to put it down and he refused.

The cops HAD to use force because he refused to put it down or say it was not real.

They assumed it was real and he was going to fire. Just as everyone else would.

The gun looked VERY similar to the real version. Only slight differences that you wouldn't notice right away, or without being close to it.

Sad to see someone that young get killed thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. But wouldn't the gun have an orange thing at the top?
