I am not going to jump into this debate but i would just like to say something.

I am incredibly proud of the British police force, they are so professional (as the stats show)

You should watch this, listen to what the american police say about the British police, its really remarkable

There are a few things that are "wrong" with the video... The attackers for the most part in the video have knifes or a machete. That is totally different then when someone has a gun. When somebody comes at you with a knife, you have many options that would work pretty good(taser, pepper spray, etc), when somebody is shooting at, yes you could take the chance of tasing them or something like that, but you also take the chance of them shooting and/or killing you. Or the police could even miss there taser shot, and pepper spray does not stop a person from attacking, so those are not the best methods. And in the simulation from the video, i don't think that the police even had a option to use a gun, because they did not even have one. Im not saying that the US police are right for shooting people like they do, but there are many factors that come into what they do. From a civilian aspect, if i'm with my family or even by myself and somebody comes to attack me, im going to defend myself by any means necessary. And that is what the police do in most cases, excluding where the police just outright murder someone for no reason. You said that you were not going to join in on the debate, so i'm going to try to do the same. As i said before, there are many different things that you have to take into account, when comparing people or things.
True, very true, but the fact that the american chiefs/ sheriffs/whatever they are said if that was in america the suspect wouldve been shot means that they wouldnt have taken any the routes you said (cs spray etc)

That is not true, it varies on a cop to cop basis. Just because he said that he would shot them, does not mean that other cops would. I mean, i don't know what training the US police go through, but i think it is safe to say that they are not taught to use there gun first, they should use it as a last resort. And training is probably what stops cops from using there gun so much. If a cop is trained better then they would know how to handle the situation better, and might not have to use their gun.

The Police in America are fearful that everyone has a firearm and everyone will use it against them, drawing their own weapon has become nothing less than a regularity now in America and shooting is the second option after yelling 'Stop' or 'Put the weapon down'. There's no deterent for Police in the US to not shoot, the department will always brush it off as the officer feeling it was the right thing to do, even though it clearly wasn't. They get away with it.

Listen, USA police don't just go to work and think, "Yeah! I get to shoot some civilians today!" Every decision has a purpose, now whether that decision is justified is beyond myself.

Having been a police cadet for well over 4 years and living with a cop, there have been 15 gun draws. 14 of which were because the guy/gal had a knife or it was a "person with a firearm" call. 1 of which was a false alarm on a gentleman who had just been pulled over for speeding, he had a pellet gun on the floorboard behind the drivers seat. Were any of those people shot? No.

The unjustified shootings happen WAY less than the more justified ones. Does that mean I completely agree with Officer actions? Not necessarily. Not sure how it works in the UK, but here in the US, if an Officer is called to a man with a firearm, guns are drawn. Anytime a weapon is seen and it just so looks like they are going to reach for it, guns are drawn, are they shot? No, not at all. Someone can still do serious harm when under the shock of a Taser. Someone on PCP or any other narcotic won't feel the shock.

The general practice is if you have a weapon and you get stopped, you identify yourself, notify that you have a weapon and ask if the officer would like to disarm you before you continue with the stop. They will 99.99999% of the time thank you for it. If your wallet is in your back pocket and you have a gun in your waistband, that officer isn't going to know if you're reaching for a wallet.

Idk. Just my .02
