I don't have an extra Windows disk on me, so would Linux be okay until I can afford one?

Since Christmas is less than a month away, I've decided to go with a build around $1000 and an i7 and gtx 970 or an i5-6600k with a gtx 980

Poor PSU. Poor case. Overpriced MOBO. WD Black has the same speeds as WD Blue.

390>970 (Little difference) Xeon>i5. Better Case. Add an SSD ASAP.

If you can manage to go up to $1100
Different Coolers. Both will be fine.

Are you looking to overclock?

You did include a 6600k which is an unlocked CPU and a Xeon is a locked CPU

$1 over, if you can handle, SSD for OS and some games

Xeon>i5, 380 No SSD, Add one ASAP, CPU cooler to keep temps low

You would be fine with either build although an SSD is not need ATM but you'd be better with the build I suggested.

For previous builds, will review the others in a moment. vvv (BG proc'ed on WoW)

A xeon is not remotely required for anything the OP is suggesting. Unless he plans on using incredibly CPU intensive programs and intensive multitasking there is no need for a xeon. The i5 is more than capable of performing this users tasks, however, I would agree with you on dropping the SSD and getting a CPU cooler.

Yes but a Xeon will be better in the long run. No I'm not saying i5s are crap but IMO it would be better for OP to get an Xeon.

LOL I meant xeon^^^

A Xeon would be hella unecessary. Especially for only gaming. The i5 I suggested will be just fine.

No, he would not be better off with the buid you suggested. I would take an SSD over an aftermarket cooler. He can hold off on that. The Xeon isnt MUCH of an improvement over an i5, btw. Dont tell me things I already know, aswell.

He wouldnt even be using the Xeon's HT, unless he was playing GTA 5 on ultra settings.

OP: What is your budget? $1000 or $750?

I was telling OP. Why wouldn't you get the better hardware? lol

Why? Because for his budget, it is unecessary. He isnt doing anything CPU intensive, just gaming. The Xeon would not make much of a difference in gaming over an i5. It is also almost $100 more. I'd take the SSD pl0x.
