Microsoft’s not interested in “Xbox One and a half”

4.9
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said he’s more interested in “really substantial changes” than anything else when it comes Xbox One.

Speaking during a Gamespot attended press conference following Microsoft Build 2016, Spencer was asked if he thought Microsoft would follow in Sony’s footsteps if PlayStation 4.5 becomes more than just a rumor.

Spencer said he didn’t have any knowledge regarding whether the console is in production or not, but if that is the case, he’s not keen on Microsoft following suit.

“I’m not a big fan of Xbox One and a half,” he said. “If we’re going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers. “For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it’s reliable, the servers are doing well.

“If we’re going to go forward with anything, I want it to be a really substantial change for people–an upgrade.”

Rumors of an upgraded PlayStation 4 with an upgraded CPU and 4K support first surfaced in mid-March during GDC 2016.

The report stated Sony at met with developers during the conference to discuss the console. Some developers where overheard mentioning the PS4.5 on the show floor in conversations.

Not long after the rumor surfaced, Digital Foundry independently established Sony’s R&D labs had prototypes of the console. More than one source confirmed its existence and referred to the console as PlayStation 4K.

Another source speaking with the Wall Street Journal said to expect PS4K to be announced before PlayStation VR launched in October. The source also stated the console would be a separate SKU offer with games “likely” backwards and forward compatible.

SPN The Xbox One is better than the PS4 imo, they don't need to change it because then they'd start releasing stuff on Xbox 1.5 that isn't on Xbox 1 so it would force us to buy a new Xbox

Yeah games struggling to hit 900P and 30FPS are definitely greater than 1080P and 60FPS games

You're right, 1080p60FPS is better than 900p30FPS. Not sure how that pertains to what SPN said though, the PS4 definitely doesn't hit 1080p60FPS.

Good move, its pointless making a new console to force your community to get a newer more expensive console when all you are really giving them is an extra 10FPS for a rip off of a price.

Why in God's name would they even do this?

And this is why Xbox will always be ahead of the pack. It's nice to see they aren't giving in to the people that whine about graphics.

"but mah 60 FPS"

Good its not worth the money to upgrade its fine how it is, yeah we would all be a little happier if it was faster but its not even close to where they need to release a whole new console for everyone to blow money on

The only thing I would want is for the Xbox speed to be upgraded, it's nowhere near as fast as they made it out to be pre release

The xbox one does need upgrading but like the 360 they should make a new model, like the E3

I think the Xbox One should not be upgraded. It'll just be another console that you need to upgrade to, without being an actual "new" console. Wait until the next generation. No Xbox 1.5
