Microsoft’s not interested in “Xbox One and a half”

4.9
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said he’s more interested in “really substantial changes” than anything else when it comes Xbox One.

Speaking during a Gamespot attended press conference following Microsoft Build 2016, Spencer was asked if he thought Microsoft would follow in Sony’s footsteps if PlayStation 4.5 becomes more than just a rumor.

Spencer said he didn’t have any knowledge regarding whether the console is in production or not, but if that is the case, he’s not keen on Microsoft following suit.

“I’m not a big fan of Xbox One and a half,” he said. “If we’re going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers. “For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it’s reliable, the servers are doing well.

“If we’re going to go forward with anything, I want it to be a really substantial change for people–an upgrade.”

Rumors of an upgraded PlayStation 4 with an upgraded CPU and 4K support first surfaced in mid-March during GDC 2016.

The report stated Sony at met with developers during the conference to discuss the console. Some developers where overheard mentioning the PS4.5 on the show floor in conversations.

Not long after the rumor surfaced, Digital Foundry independently established Sony’s R&D labs had prototypes of the console. More than one source confirmed its existence and referred to the console as PlayStation 4K.

Another source speaking with the Wall Street Journal said to expect PS4K to be announced before PlayStation VR launched in October. The source also stated the console would be a separate SKU offer with games “likely” backwards and forward compatible.

This would be a total waste of money glad they're not doing this.

so glad they won't be doing this

If they did it, it would be like buying 8GB of ram for $500... Not worth it. Good job MS

"its reliable, the servers are doing well" This man is clueless. Xbox Live has been down too many times to count this past year.

I'm glad, couldn't think of anything worse than paying to upgrade already.

Stifled That's good to hear, what's the point in making a console if there is only going to be minor changes you may as well do something big.

they are a monopoly franchise what do u expect man. play-station is doing it so it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft does it also. weather they release it or not the amount play-station makes will be the decision for a new release of another console (weather its earlier or what not) , just like they are trying to end the 360's by backwards compatibility , so you might as well get the xb1 for it can do the same thing + more. That will be their same idea if they release the next 'upgraded console'.
