Background music feature coming to Xbox One this summer

4.6
Lots of Microsoft-related news surfacing today, some of it pertaining to Xbox. If you haven't heard, Phil Spencer took the stage at BUILD 2016 today, talking about Universal Windows Apps progress on Xbox, Cortana on Xbox One and that Xbox Ones are capable of becoming dev kits. Perhaps the average gamer won't be all that excited about these announcements and, if that's the case, they'll be happy to know there's one big feature that was mentioned on day one of BUILD 2016.

Microsoft has finally confirmed it's bringing the background music feature to the Xbox One this summer. Instead of relying on game soundtracks, it will be possible to play your own music instead. This feature has been one of the most-requested features for the Xbox One since the console was released back in 2013.

Phil Spencer mentioned that Microsoft was interested in bringing the popular feature from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One late last year, but since the Xbox division's focus on holiday sales and support was priority #1 there wouldn't be any real news until sometime after the new year. It's likely that the background music feature will roll out to Xbox One consoles around the same time Microsoft pushes its Windows 10 anniversary update.

I like this is coming to Xbox but I won't use it a lot, maybe never. I can't listen to music and play a game at the same time because I find it to get distracting. I also don't really mind that it has taken this long either because I would rather them focus on major things that either need fixing or added. :)

Xerath Would this work in-game I wonder?

I hope so because on the 360 it wouldn't let you on certain games which sucked.

Does this include playing Spotify or Pandora in the background to play music? Or only music you "own".....
