Background music feature coming to Xbox One this summer

4.6
Lots of Microsoft-related news surfacing today, some of it pertaining to Xbox. If you haven't heard, Phil Spencer took the stage at BUILD 2016 today, talking about Universal Windows Apps progress on Xbox, Cortana on Xbox One and that Xbox Ones are capable of becoming dev kits. Perhaps the average gamer won't be all that excited about these announcements and, if that's the case, they'll be happy to know there's one big feature that was mentioned on day one of BUILD 2016.

Microsoft has finally confirmed it's bringing the background music feature to the Xbox One this summer. Instead of relying on game soundtracks, it will be possible to play your own music instead. This feature has been one of the most-requested features for the Xbox One since the console was released back in 2013.

Phil Spencer mentioned that Microsoft was interested in bringing the popular feature from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One late last year, but since the Xbox division's focus on holiday sales and support was priority #1 there wouldn't be any real news until sometime after the new year. It's likely that the background music feature will roll out to Xbox One consoles around the same time Microsoft pushes its Windows 10 anniversary update.

This is great because I don't have to use my phone while I'm gaming anymore

Its about time, I remember on the 360 I'd have like Three Days Grace blasting in the background when playing.

Well having an aux cable and astros has made this a pretty pointless update for me. Nonetheless it is good update for everyone else.

Can't believe it actually took this long to incorporate this feature onto the console.
