Fallout 4 beats GTA 5’s record of most concurrent Steam users

4.6
Mere hours after launch, Fallout 4 has climbed up all the way to top of the Steam charts, second only to Dota 2.

Fallout 4 went live in most parts of the world overnight. That includes the PC version – which, according to Steam’s own stats, is currently the most-played non-Valve game on the service.

Second only to Dota 2, Fallout 4 peaked at 290,461 today. As of this writing, 239,266 players are now exploring its vast wastelands.

Back in April, when the PC version of GTA 5 launched, it climbed to the same spot, but peaked with considerably less players at 196,700.

For Fallout 4, this number encompasses all the copies sold, because all of them come with a Steam code, and users need a Steam account to play it. The game’s disc version doesn’t even contain the full game.

GTA 5, on the other hand, doesn’t rely on Steam, as you just need Rockstar’s Social Club launcher to run the game. That means GTA 5’s numbers only cover those who bought the game on Steam.

Fallout 4 and its season pass, currently also occupy the first and second spots on Steam’s Top Sellers list respectively.

These numbers will likely grow, as Skyrim – a nearly four-year-old game, is always present in Steam’s top 15.

I'm not surprised really. GTA V got boring quickly so I'd expect the majority of AAA games to beat GTA now.

Actually pretty surprising but very nice!

Doesnt surprise me, glad to see a singleplayer game trump a multiplayer game !

Bloody hell i am quite surprised by this!

JRMH Is this ACTUALLY suprising to anyway? People on PC were actually excited over Fallout4, meanwhile GTAV is and has been a kiddie game, lol

I enjoyed GTA, I think a lot of PC users play FO, more than console users.

Fallout 4 is pretty great so it's not a big supprise that this happened and GTA 5 was a little more popular on console.

Pretty surprising and not at the same time, I mean Fallout 4 has a lot a lot a lot of hype. :D . Obviously because it's amazing.

Not surprising that it got more concurrent steam users on it during the release since the hype wasn't as much for GTA V since it had already been out on consoles for ages.

-OwenUK Probably not going to play this game but this is great news
For them I guess

Why aren't you going to play the game?
