Fallout 4 beats GTA 5’s record of most concurrent Steam users

4.6
Mere hours after launch, Fallout 4 has climbed up all the way to top of the Steam charts, second only to Dota 2.

Fallout 4 went live in most parts of the world overnight. That includes the PC version – which, according to Steam’s own stats, is currently the most-played non-Valve game on the service.

Second only to Dota 2, Fallout 4 peaked at 290,461 today. As of this writing, 239,266 players are now exploring its vast wastelands.

Back in April, when the PC version of GTA 5 launched, it climbed to the same spot, but peaked with considerably less players at 196,700.

For Fallout 4, this number encompasses all the copies sold, because all of them come with a Steam code, and users need a Steam account to play it. The game’s disc version doesn’t even contain the full game.

GTA 5, on the other hand, doesn’t rely on Steam, as you just need Rockstar’s Social Club launcher to run the game. That means GTA 5’s numbers only cover those who bought the game on Steam.

Fallout 4 and its season pass, currently also occupy the first and second spots on Steam’s Top Sellers list respectively.

These numbers will likely grow, as Skyrim – a nearly four-year-old game, is always present in Steam’s top 15.

Fallout is one of those games that will be very popular on release, but will definitely lower down below popular eSport games like CS:GO and Dota 2.

I guess the author doesn't know when the release dates for Dota 2 and TF2 were. That logic is also completely flawed, you really shouldn't make inferences with piss poor explanations.

Dusknoir Why even play GTA on PC anyways? tbh its more of a console game.

Mods.

kms this isn't really a surprise. gta is so bland right now. and fallout is the new game that pretty much everyone has been waiting for.

It's not really bland, it's always going to be as fun because of the mods and more intricate mods will be coming out in the future. But you're right, it's no surprise. New game with a massive hype, a little bit like GTA V when it first came out. It always happens. No surprise to see Dota 2 still top.

JRMH Is this ACTUALLY suprising to anyway? People on PC were actually excited over Fallout4, meanwhile GTAV is and has been a kiddie game, lol

The ESRB would like to think otherwise.
