PlayStation VR will be “priced as a new gaming platform,” says Sony

Sony’s PlayStation VR headset will be priced similarly to a new gaming consoles, according to CEO Andrew House.


Speaking with Bloomberg at TGS 2015 House didn’t reveal a specific price, but if his comment is anything to go by, the headset could cost around $399.99. That’s the price of a standard 500GB PS4 in the US. In the UK, the standard console’s suggested retail price is around the £350 mark.

The SRP is listed above because depending on the retailer, the console can run quite a bit less. As could the headset.

The firm expects ten titles to launch alongside the headset when it hits the market next year.

The Rift will always be better, but hey! That's pretty cool their is Playstation VR.

Its a great idea and seems to be something that has caught the attention to everyone but they should have made it a separate console from the PS4. No way would i trade my xbox in for a PS4 just to get VR. The Rift is going to dominate the market.

I agree with this.
This is absurd considering that VR is something that started out as open source.
You can make your own Rift for 150$ or less.
Buying an accessory for the price of the console is stupid for a novelty.
Those 6 games will be the only ones that exist and offer support for it.

I think they will /try/ to lower the price, whether they can or not is obviously unknown, but I can't imagine this going big if they keep it at a huge cost. Then again they are shipping it as a 'console' and that price is similar to other current gen consoles.
