Respawn Job Listing Appears to Confirm New Star Wars Jedi Game

4
A third entry in Electronic Arts and developer Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi series seems to have been confirmed by a job listing looking for a Senior Game Writer. After several years of fumbling its exclusive Star Wars license with the Battlefront games, Respawn Entertainment's third-person action Soulslike Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order pleasantly surprised fans in 2019. Its follow-up, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, was released about a year ago to rave reviews despite its rocky technical launch and performance issues, which have since been fixed. Survivor's impeccable storytelling, intricate level design, and challenging lightsaber combat boosted it into the conversation of 2023's best games.

A few months after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's launch, the lead actor behind protagonist Cal Kestis' performance, Cameron Monaghan, hinted that a third Star Wars Jedi title was already in the works. Although Monaghan's claim wasn't officially confirmed by EA, seeing how successful Survivor turned out to be, easily beating its predecessor Fallen Order's launch sales, and how much praise it had received, it wouldn't be surprising for EA to want to make a third game. The ending of Jedi: Survivor even leaves a bit of room for Kal's story to be picked up and continued further.

With the fate of a third Star Wars Jedi game up in the air, a job listing on EA's careers site has now pretty much confirmed plans for the Jedi threequel. Seeking out a Senior Game Writer, the job ad clearly mentions Star Wars Jedi in bold right next to the job position in the title at the top of the post. Further down, the post describes the project as an "unannounced Star Wars title," and requires the candidate to have experience working on "AAA third-person action adventure" games.

Based on the job listing, and taking Cameron Monaghan's comments last year into account, it looks clear as day that the third Star Wars Jedi title has gotten the green light from EA. Seeing that Survivor only just came out last year and Respawn is currently looking for writers, it's safe to say that the third Jedi game isn't anywhere close to full development yet, and is likely in the concept and pre-production phase. Three and a half years separated Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor; the third game will likely take about the same amount of time. Though, with Respawn's long-rumored Star Wars FPS having been recently canceled, the Jedi threequel could've moved up Respawn's list of priorities.

Fans of Star Wars video games won't have to wait that long, though, as Ubisoft's open-world crime adventure Star Wars Outlaws has just recently confirmed its August 30 release date. Despite some controversy surrounding locked season pass missions and exorbitant special edition prices, Outlaws is shaping up to be a fun journey through Star Wars' criminal underworld with a fresh set of characters as fans await Respawn's next chapter of Cal Kestis' story.
