Phil Spencer - 'I don't know if making Minecraft 2 makes sense'

Phil Spencer has stated that he is unsure whether Microsoft should be releasing a sequel to Minecraft.

The head of Xbox was a guest on the IGN podcast and was asked if Microsoft was considering working on a second Minecraft game following its acquisition of Mojang.

"I don't know if Minecraft 2... if that's the thing that makes the most sense," Spencer replied.

"The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there. We need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else.

"It doesn't mean that everything we're going to do is going to map to 100% of their acceptance, because I don't know if there is any topic where 100% of people agree.

"But we look at job one as to go out and meet the needs of the Minecraft community first, and then we can think about ways that we can actually help grow it. That's our sole focus."

Mojang confirmed in mid-September that Microsoft was purchasing the studio and Minecraft for $2.5 billion.

Spencer later sought to reassure fans of the game on other non-Xbox systems that they will continue to be supported.

Don't see what more you could add to make a Minecraft two. Only reason would be for Microsoft to drain some more money from it. Also doubt it would be as popular the second time around.

Bebe_Rexha Mojang should of never sold Minecraft. There would never be a thought of number 2 with Mojang.

Shouldn't be a second one, just update like Mojang used to.



Microsoft isn't that ones that thought of a number 2? It was the community.

I can't believe the amount of people that took from this article they are making a second minecraft and then ranting about it. It states no where in the article or name to any reference of a second one being made. Only that making a second one wouldn't make sense. Which is the exact opposite of what all of you are complaining about. This is sad.

The only way they would get away with this is that if they stopped updating Minecraft. Then created the 2nd one and only updated that.

Which, seems very idiotic, unless you're only doing it for the money.
