Report: GTA 5 runs at 1080p on PS4

4.1
Grand Theft Auto 5 will leverage the extra power of newer consoles to display in true HD on your PS4.

GTA 5 is the subject of a ten-page feature in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. According to those who snagged a copy, the feature makes specific mention of the game’s 1080p resolution:

“Glimmering 1080p presentation, hugely increased draw distance, 100 new songs, fresh wild-life, a bumper version of GTA Online, this is sandbox you’ve dreamt about ever since you slotted Sony’s angular baby under your TV,” the feature reads.

“Farewell 720p. You served your purpose adequately enough. Still, our eyes have been gagging over 1080p’s pin-sharp pleasure and the Los Santos sandbox is only too happy to oblige on PS4, running at a native 1920 x 1080 pixels.”

Gamepur has scans of the relevant text in situ.

The magazine makes no mention of the Xbox One version, of course, and Rockstar is yet to comment on the news to confirm parity – or a lack of it.

Last year we would have assumed that the Xbox One version would run at a slightly lower resolution than PS4, but in the interim Microsoft unlocked a little extra additional power by freeing up system resources previously devoted to the Kinect. Also, Rockstar is staffed mostly by wizards, and has had an extra year to work with the new console.

GTA 5 PS4 and Xbox One’s release date of November 18 isn’t far off now, but the preview may have been based on an older build, so there’s no guarantee the resolution information will remain accurate at time of launch.

We don’t know what frame rate Rockstar is aiming for, unfortunately, but we’d be pretty surprised if GTA 5′s jaw-dropping open world will allow for anything greater than 30 FPS.

TDK_Jr What's the difference. I really don't care about definition as long as it's not 360p. I would rather 720p than nothing at all. There isn't much of a difference between 720 and 1080p.

It depends on how good your TV is. If you have a decent TV you won't really see a difference, but if you have a beast one, trust me their is a difference.

Well there is. Depending on the size of your screen and how close you sit. I honestly can't stand 720p on my monitor. Its just too blurry. Its a shame developers have to work with these underpowered machines. Its either 1080p or 60fps, seems like you can't have both.

Actually considering re buying this game for ps4.

720p was great for me on my Xbox 360. Seeing GTAV in `080p will look phenomenal.

Good luck with a steady, playable framerate.

This will be really good, one of the multiple benefits of having a PS4. :)

1080p would look so good on console, can't wait to see what it's like maxed on PC.
