Standalone Xbox One Kinect reportedly launching in October

4.7
Microsoft will reportedly begin selling the standalone Xbox One Kinect sensor on October 6.

That's according to Windows Phone Central, which claims to have learned that the peripheral will be available first in North America, priced at $149. We've asked Microsoft's UK arm for comment.

In May, Microsoft announced plans to drop Kinect as a mandatory Xbox One accessory.

The following month, the company began offering Xbox One without Kinect starting at £349/$399, down from the original RRP of £425/$499.

North American Xbox One sales in June doubled May's total, according to Microsoft.

Development of Kinect games is expected to suffer in the long-term, especially among third-parties, although Microsoft has said it remains committed to the peripheral.

The firm has also released a new Xbox One developer kit giving game creators access to additional system resources previously allocated to Kinect.

The second generation Kinect sensor released for Windows PCs in July priced at £159/$199.
