1080p for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare? Wait and see, says dev

4.5
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games is not yet ready to say what resolution the game will be running at when it hits store shelves in November.

Speaking to OXM, producer Mike Mejia said that the studio is happy with where it is right now but continue to work on improving it.

“So we’re 60 frames a second all the way,” he said. “We are not talking about the – we’re still waiting for announcements to come out in terms of where we’re at with the resolutions, but I can tell you that the three year development title that we’ve had, working with everyone involved to make sure that we’re getting it right… we’re still optimising the game, but even with where we’re at right now, we’re really happy.

“We’re ahead of where we were last year, and we still have time, we still have a couple of months to go.”

Mejia also touched on the extra power provided to Xbox One developers following the June SDK update.

“All that stuff is all coming online too, as we talk to all the first-party partners that we have – we have a direct connection to those guys, so all that stuff is coming online now. I know we’re working with everyone, we’re working with Sony, we’re working with Microsoft, we’re really happy with what we’re looking at.”

Do you think we’re going to have a similar resolutiongate situation with this year’s Call of Duty like we did with Ghosts?

I think it should be 1080p. The game will look great. If it doesn't, the game could be a letdown.

This would be really great if they put 1080p into AW!

Still not going to purchase the game, COD has grown to become something terrible imo.

Looks like a mix of halo and titanfall.....

Game looks good to me so far just can't wait for the official launch.

Smurfs I'm hoping and guessing that it will be at 1080p when Advanced Warfare releases. Even if it isn't though it won't be that big of a deal to me.

exactly, i know it won't be a game changer, but it would cool to have it at it

justahacker Why is the question not "4k for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare?"?. Let's get with the program, devs. We've had 4k resolutions for a good while and it's shocking that so few games even support this resolution.

Anybody who wants to dispute that the 8th generation consoles are not strong enough to push 4k resolutions, I welcome your idiocy. We were chugging through 1080p just fine on the last generation consoles. We played Grand Theft Auto V in all of its glory on the last generation consoles. These consoles, among other things, had 512MB of RAM (Xbox 360) or 256 DRAM (PS3), graphics cards with less than 100MB of RAM for graphics processing, and three cores or less on their processors. Come at me and I'll shoot a ton of holes in your argument.

4k resolutions pl0x.

how about the price and lack of consumers using 4k?

That one is a pretty fair argument.

I know :P It was pretty simple because I had little time but, in all honesty the first Xbox 360 at least, hardly supported HD. It was more of an option. HD really didn't get big until lately, and that's when all of the prices started to drop. 4 years ago, my 22' cost me 350$. Now, my girlfriend and I are looking at some 50' HDTV's for 400$~.

It's a cycle always, give it a few years when 4k TV's are actually being used. When they do, you'll have everyone who can afford one buying it for whatever reason (usually to brag or have the newest thing). As they find more cost effective ways to make one, prices go down.

So, 5 years maybe a $20,000 4k TV may be $3,000 or so. When that happens, a consumer base is formed and a new race is formed, to utilize those new consumers. It'll happen soon.

LOL you really have no idea what you are talking about, the XB1 and PS4 would not be able to push 4k on any game as they are WAY too weak to do so. 2 GTX 780ti's in SLI can't even run some PC games with acceptable framerates at 4k resolutions and those are about 4x the power of the XB1 and PS4. So yeah keep thinking the current gen consoles can run games in 4k when they can just about manage 1080p as it is.

Learn more about software engineering and then try again. They are NOT too weak. We have not been able to optimize enough at this current date to be able to use 4k resolutions on the consoles. You really think that I have no idea what I'm talking about? I literally just explained how the abysmal specs of the old consoles could carry GTA V albeit barely seven years after the consoles were released. It's not a matter of hardware. It is a matter of software optimization. Software will ALWAYS trump hardware. It's a matter of time and the amount of research put into the current generation.

@ Latias, your point is much more what I'm getting at. As of now, there are a few high end gaming PCs running Titans and such that are able to run the games that support 4k resolution at reasonable framerates. Keeping that in mind, none of these games are truly optimized for 4k due to the small amount of consumers that can actually make use of the 4k resolution. As we move forward in time, more and more resources will be devoted to making this a reality not only for less high end PCs but for the current generation of consoles as well.

Oh - there was one person earlier who corrected my error on the Xbox 360 and PS3s' ability to run games at 1080p on a normal basis at native resolution without rescaling. Thanks for the correction.

Dude you're in high school. Don't get started on "software engineering". No amount of optimization could allow the PS4 or Xbox One to run modern games at 2160p at 60+ fps. I have a PS4 as well as a PC with a 4gb GTX 770. I've tried playing in 4k and it does NOT come close to 60 fps.

I don't know what the equivalent GPU is for the Xbox One but the PS4 has an equivalent of a GTX 660 ti. You need SLI 780s at a bare minimum for 4k gaming. Software optimization makes a difference but it can't bridge that much of a gap.

Note: I am semi-hypocritical for saying that because I just pre-ordered the new CoD Xbox One for the 1tb hard drive.

Honestly, looks horrible. Not even saying this to troll the CoD fans cause CoDs arent always garbage but this is seriously titanfall without the titans. Whats the fun?
