Call of Duty's three year cycle gives creative 'freedom to fail'

4.3
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg mentioned during our recent Gamescom interview that Call of Duty's current studio cycle will keep the franchise in a lifestyle to which the audience has become accustomed. Although Call of Duty may be an annual franchise, it had been a tennis match between two studios, but earlier this year it was revealed the franchise was now on a three-studio cycle.

"That extra year of development time, particularly with the new consoles and the more powerful hardware, has really paid off thus far to iterate, innovate and try new things," said Hirshberg. "To find out which things didn't work and have the freedom to fail in the creative process, so what goes on the disc is the best ideas."

If only CoD would actually stop being repetitive, the next series of CoD could have potential but I don't see it happening.

Qat Lol the COD franchise is going downhill so maybe this'll help not give us games that are the same.

Very true!
It will soon be dead.
It's only a matter of time before they run out of idea (/get done for stealing others)

Cod isnt going to die out fast every year they keep selling more and more so they are not even close to "dieing out"

It still gets old seeing the same product every year just with a different name.

May get old for you, but it's still selling billions

if the game was bad in a two year cycle, an extra year would definitely help.

No it would just give them more time to make it even worse

Maybe, we just have to wait and see. Cod will most definitely never be the same as it was so you have to get used to that

Cod4 took 3 years to build and it was the best one ever. what do you know.

Maggardo This is a great move made by Activision. It gives more time, to properly develop the games.

On another note, Treyarch has always made the best Call of Duty games, in my opinion. Not just because of Zombies. I like the campaign, and the multiplayer is nice too. My favorite CoD is World at War, which was made by Treyarch. And, I am excited to see a new developer working on the CoD series. So, I am gonna try Advanced Warfare out before giving out an honest opinion of the game, and what I think they have done wrong/right with the game.

i agree with you. is it bad that i am more excited for treayarch to reveal their next COD than COD:AW to be released? haha

Video makes it looks pretty cool but slightly too similar to Titanfall/other similar games, But what we all know is it will be garbage and all those corners, people just sitting in them not moving around :D
