Mojang is thinking about custom servers for Minecraft Xbox One

4.7
Mojang is thinking about adding support for player-owned, customisable servers to Minecraft Xbox One, the developer's Daniel Kaplan has told OXM. This would allow players to set up their own online worlds, which invited players could then explore in their absence. The developer says it has yet to put any concrete plans in motion, however.

"On the Xbox servers?" Kaplan began, "We are looking into different solutions, however we don't know when it will work. A lot of people would enjoy that and we have got a lot of questions about it. It would be similar to what we're doing on the PC."

It's possible that the game will allow players to store their worlds on Microsoft's Azure servers (aka, the Xbox Live cloud), but there are obvious difficulties. Minecraft save files soak up more and more storage space as players explore and more terrain is generated - supporting such growth remotely would presumably be a challenge, with thousands of players involved.

If Mojang itself were to offer the servers, there's also the question of how this would sit alongside an Xbox Gold subscription. The developer's Minecraft Realms service is available for a monthly fee. Still, remote world storage remains one of our most-wanted features for the game, which will go on sale this month. If you had a server of your very own, what would you do with it?

And they won't do it to the Xbox 360 to try and make more people buy an Xbox one :(

Would be really cool, hope it happens.

Fakies I honestly hope they will carry this on the 360, that'd add a whole new element!

I wouldn't say it's necessary for the 360's performance.

I personally would wonder how good these would be considering there aren't things like command blocks on Xbox which are a major part of making servers what they are and making all the options available. It would be really cool to have servers like the do on PC but I think they wouldn't be anything more then survival worlds on release.

That would be pretty cool, hope they go through with it.

I would love private servers on console, although I doubt it will actually happen.

A-10 Why not just have one simple survival server for each region and have it so there isnt any map limits of how far you can travel, no limit of how many players there can be in, and have a set of rules. One server and one massive party. And then if you want privacy you can go ahead and build your own private server for your friends that's from your own console.

Doing this would require a ton of server space and what not and I feel as if that it would be more expensive than Mojang would like to pay for. I like the idea though.
