Bungie engineer explains lack of cross-platform play for Destiny

Destiny's galaxy may be vast and currently well-populated with beta Guardians, but players aren't able to team up with heroes hailing from different consoles. While technical issues might seem like a likely culprit, Bungie engineer Roger Wolfson told Digital Trends the lack of cross-platform play is more about maintaining a consistent experience for everyone.

"Regardless of where the reality is, there's definitely a perception among gamers that better hardware means you have an advantage," Wolfson explained. "We don't want to have to enter that fray, so to create the best, most level playing field, both actually and perceptually, we separated it by platform."

Wolfson provided a hypothetical example of snipers aiming at each other while using two different consoles. The one playing on older hardware might see their target as two pixels, while the modern console's output could paint a target twice as wide.

Speaking of pixels, Xbox One users will be missing out on a few when their Destiny beta launches on July 23, but Bungie is still aiming for 1080p with the final version for all consoles.

End-game will be mindless wandering like GTA V now is. At least in GTA V you can still progress a little bit, like get new cars and gear and just do PVP stuff.

You must not know who Bungie is then if you said this game will be garbage. Waiting for Advanced Warefare eh?

Same here haha, I use to be a cod fan boy tbh, but man what it has turned into after mw3 and bo2 and ghosts, just ugh. Destiny looks 100%

There is absolutley no end game content in GTA ! with ll the glitched money that everybody has you can own every car, every gun and attachment and every item of clothing. you really cant compare the 2 games as GTA 5 is pants and always was and Desting is looking amazing

I wasn't expecting there to be cross-platform play for Destiny in the first place, so it really doesn't matter to me that they don't have it.

Beat me to it.

I don't get why people hate on a game that's not even out yet, at least play the beta then form an opinion.
At the end of the day, this is a HUGE budgeted game probably more than any GTA. So you can bet they'll do whatever they can to keep people playing.

As for the lack of cross platform play it's not going to be a big deal, a game this hyped is going to have a massive player base on each platform from day one.
