Friday is it for Call of Duty Elite

3.8
Activision is slated to cease the Call of Duty Elite service on Friday February 28th. Elite launched to coincide with Modern Warfare 3 in November 2011, it was intended as a online platform to further enhance the series MP experience alongside better stat tracking/viewing.

The platform launched as a tiered service in 2011 but was later rolled into a completely free service alongside the Black Ops 2 release in November 2012.

The company explained their logic here in the form of a Elite shutdown FAQ, below is a small excerpt of the linked document.

Call of Duty Elite was designed to work with prior Call of Duty games and has begun winding down support for those titles since late last year, which ends on February 28, 2014.

We've taken all the key learnings and fan feedback to create the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which takes some of the best and most popular features of Call of Duty Elite and introduces new elements such as Call of Duty Clan Wars. Download the Call of Duty app now at http://callofduty.com/app, and join in the Call of Duty Clan Wars fun today.

There are no plans to bring Call of Duty Elite back. We encourage fans to download the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which allows players to customize their multiplayer character and weapons loadouts on the go, keep track of their Call of Duty: Ghosts stats, and features Call of Duty Clan Wars, where players can compete for cool, exclusive in-game gear.Activision

I couldn't add Elite Premium after my first year expired. This was so annoying because I couldn't do clan wars to rank up my clan in MW3.......

MVPapi It was good, but I don't get why we can't just look at our stats in-game? I could at least use Elite before, but I don't even have a phone to download the Ghosts app

Clan management and versus was a huge portion of cod:Elite. they had clan levels as you may know, and managing a big clan could make you spend hours on elite. also with the app I used it almost everyday.

This is something huge for me. I always used Elite to check my stats, talk to my clan, look at challenges etc.
I can't believe that they can just shut it down when there actually are a lot of people using it.

I really only used it for clan challenges, all the tips and tricks were too basic and dull.
It also crashes a lot, sure won't be missing this app.

I remember when it came out, sounded great but actually it was slow, missing info and needed too many updates for it to work.
