XboxIE brings HTML5 games to Xbox One

4.6
The Xbox One doesn't have a lot of games in its official library yet (it launched just two months ago, after all) but this week it was revealed that a third party website has been launched which allows owners of Microsoft's console access to many more games.

The site is called Xboxie and while it was not made by Microsoft, it seems to have the unofficial stamp of approval from Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, the director of Xbox Live programming.

Next time you turn on your Xbox One, Say "Xbox Go To Internet Explorer" and open http://t.co/pASGfHu68p - You are welcome
— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) January 23, 2014

The site uses the Xbox One's version of Internet Explorer to offer a number of free HTML5-based games that can be played with the console's controller. While technically any HTML5 web game could be played on the Xbox One, nearly all of them are optimzed for a keyboard and mouse setup. The site's creators state, "So we at Xboxie search and test each game to make sure it runs smooth and plays well on a controller. So to sum up, if it's on Xboxie then you can play it on your Xbox One."

The collection of games, as you might expect, is mostly of casual titles but there are a few familiar names such as Pac Man, Cut The Rope and Bejeweled. The Xboxie team has pledged to reach out to other game developers so that more web-based games can support the Xbox One via IE.

That's cool, but these don't really interest me.

This is what it needs, games they've got out now are boring

Honestly they have enough good gams that you don't need a whole lot of games to entertain yourself.

SecureAccess Sweet that means that there is some way people can play the new Runescape HTML5 on xbox one. Someone should look into that.

Lol yeah because so many people want to play that on their console..

Yeah why wouldnt people want too? I mean I dont play runescape as often anymore so it wouldnt matter to me but it is a possibility for the future of runescape players. Since they said that it supports "keyboard and mouse". Because runescape is going to HTML5 it would be possible and for people that dont have gaming pc to support HTML5 runescape on high graphics. Xbox one will be able to handle the job for them.

nobody cares about ps4 on this news comments

Not necessarily true. Some people are fans of both consoles. Not everyone is a fanboy.

Well said. Not many people are fanboys of a certain console anymore. I don't care what has 0.01% better Graphics than something else. I just care about the news :D

I personally like both consoles, both consoles are really good, in my opinion.

MoBo How can you play bejeweled on console? 0.o

I think the better question is why would you want to play it on a console?
