Titanfall has been tough to market due to lack of single-player

4.5
Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment, has had a rough time of accurately marketing the shooter, given its lack of single-player mode. That’s the claim of producer Drew McCoy, who recently shed some new light on the matter.

It follows uproar around Titanfall’s 12 player cap, something we felt was nothing to worry about.

Now, in a post on NeoGAF, McCoy wrote, “Its actually been really tough trying to accurately market Titanfall. If you look at what we’ve done, its a lot different than what most FPS games do. Without a bunch of highly scripted SP moments to recam from different angles, the usual ‘movie like’ trailer is just about right out.

“Instead, we’ve decided to show unedited gameplay segments that last 3-5 minutes (so far – more footage coming, of course!) to show the “flow” of the game. Starting as a Pilot, taking on AI and other player Pilots, wall running around a Titan, earning your Titan, climbing in, battling other Titans while stomping on humans, ejecting, etc. There’s a huge amount of gameplay mechanics available at any one time, and encompassing them in a few minutes is actually quite hard to do.

“Its also why we took an extremely early pre-alpha build of the game to events like Gamescom, PAX, etc. to let normal dudes hands-on time with the game. There’s no amount of polished marketing that can replace playing the actual game.”

On the whole player count thing, McCoy replied to one forum member, “What about high player counts makes that more fun, though? I honestly want to know, because this kind of stuff is super important and we obsess over it every day.”

Its-Icy I'd rather have a game with good multiplayer and bad story mode since the multiplayer will keep me playing the game.

I agree, will be good to keep players devoted to getting that rank and just playing for fun in general

-Signed I honestly don't even play the Story Modes anymore. Straight to multiplayer.

Just like nearly every call of duty player ever, but this game is gonna be awesome!

The people that play games for single player are the people that trade in your game once their done after a week if they want a story line they need to tell directors to produce interactive tv series and movies...

Dont focus on the people that play your game for a week focus on the people that are going to play it for months... a lot more people buy games for multiplayer than campain.. ive never bought any game other than Halo and Elder Scrolls for the campaign and even then that was jus a bonus to Halos amazing multiplayer..

Elder Scrolls has already realized single player gets insanely dull insanely fast dont get me wrong i played it for weeks over and over eventually modding it to spark my interest again but overall its collecting dust because of not being able to play with friends and family Single Player is not a key Focus anymore its an added bonus when your bored of the multiplayer

They might be focusing more on the multiplayer aspect of the game, like in COD or BF, they have good campaigns but it seems like they focus more on the multiplayer part of the game and that's what i think is going to happen to titanfall.

Don't mind the whole no campaign thing. Most of the big annual FPS games (bf, CoD) tend to never shine anyways. At least with no single player they can just focus on polishing multiplayer and make it good.

I like single player games but I don't understand how a game can not have a single player campaign or something single player like.

VPN Well it doesn't matter about single player, this only affects people with no internet.

A lot of people play single player games that have internet. Not everything is about the multiplayer.

I am one of those people and i agree with you. I regularly play single player games despite having an active internet connection.
