Sony UK thinks PS4 lifecycle might be shorter than PS3

4.7
PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara has suggested that the PS4 lifecycle might be shorter than that of the PS3 in certain markets.

Sony's next-gen console launches in Europe at midnight tonight, seven years after PS3 debuted in Japan and the US and more than six and half years after it arrived on these shores.

On the eve of the launch, Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Gara told TechRadar: "I think there's reason to believe that the next cycle might be shorter in markets such as the UK.

"It's probably a sign of the times and how much has changed in seven years, but I think the willingness and the appetite to pick up new technology fast has probably changed quite a bit.

Sony has put aside an unspecified number of PS4 consoles to purchase at its official London launch event tonight, while 300 GAME stores, 150 Tesco stores and 155 Asda stores will have stock at launch for UK consumers who haven't pre-ordered the system.

TinyPic I Stick to my PC Easy to upgrade.

With technology evolving so quick then its obvious the conoles will have shorter life cycle. Roll on #XboxTwo

Yup, most likely, and also even though the PC is easy to upgrade, so is the Xbox and PS.

The PC is like $100 a year to upgrade, these consoles are $400 every 5 years minimum so its not much difference. The community is better on console though

It always was, and is, no matter what console you have if it better than the PC, and those Alienware computers are terrible, I had one and they are like the worst.

I think I will always use console for gaming, and PC just for general PC use. But these consoles are pretty much PC's in their selves!

Except they are amazingly fast PC's with a lot of better hardware in side of them.

Thats why PC Gaming is alot better. And easy to get free games & Mod them.

But Will PC's always be best for "entertainment"?

They never are, no matter how you put it some PCs are built for gaming, most aren't so you have to think which one is the fastest? The console always beats the PC, even if they are easier to mod.

Of Course next gen is going to be shorter look how quickly we have gone from the very first Macintosh computer to the new iMac 2013 with a 5mm edge

Mwah Im not so bothered anyway, I wasnt ready for the next-gen.

Even if it was half the lifetime of the PS3, there still wouldn't be another console until 2018 or maybe even later.
