Apple reveals iPad Air, thinner and faster

4.5
Apple today refreshed their iPad lineup with a brand new generation of 9.7" tablet. Sharing the exterior design of the existing iPad mini, just with a larger screen, the device is noticeably thinner and only weighs 1 Pound.

The device includes an A7 processor which will power the same retina display that has been present since 'the new iPad', released early last year. It has double the graphics performance - 72x faster than the original iPad, and 8x faster a CPU than the first.

Other improvements include dual microphones and two antennas for twice the data transfer rates.

The iPad will continue to complete with Microsoft's Surface 2, which was put on sale today. The invite for this event stated that "We still have a lot to cover," suggesting a new case or keyboard cover for the iPad, but for now we await such an announcement.

On sale starting at $499 for a 16GB Wi-Fi model, and will ship November 1st.

Foam I may actually get this :) For that price its a steal

Yeah, those prices along with that picture in the article are bogus. The a in air should be capitalized, tac on $200 to the prices, and remove the 8gb model then that picture would be pretty accurate.

I would love to ask you how it is getting worse and worse?
It is getting better and better if anything.

Becoming faster, better displays, and even thinner over the years.

That's true but why would you want something really thin ? if you drop it , it would probably break and it cost's nearly as much as a computer/laptop :/

did you watch the video they did a drop and it performed like a champ

That's cute, haha. You think it was real :) It's just like fast food commercials. Get a 'prop' or a fake one to make it look real and good for the public. Until you actually get one and see it's worse than what they made it look. Obviously, if you're selling such a thin and fragile product you want the consumers to think it can withstand so many feet of a drop and survive without a scratch!

It's made of metal you plebeian, if you drop it on the back or side it's not going to shatter into pieces. Of course if you drop it flat on the screen it is likely to crack, the same as your (I presume) android phone/tablet. That's why cases are sold for these things, bumpers that stop it from landing on the screen... Apple (or any company for that matter) aren't legally allowed to claim that their product will survive a fall of X meters if it isn't true.

I like how they try to file law suits against other companies for patented mechanics like specific features of the touchscreen or whatever the hell it was. Although pretty much all of the iPads, iPhones, iPods etc are all pieced together by totally different companies. The make like 10% of their product.

True the same thing but more money for it :/

Apple has been doing this a fair bit lately. I really hope they can innovate with their products in the near future

Yes I would agree $200 for a tablet, and a good one at that, is pretty damn cheap.
