GTA Online includes in-game currency microtransactions – rumour

4.6
A file pulled from Rockstar’s website seems to show that GTA Online players will be able to buy in-game cash with real money.

A Reddit user found and analysed an XML file from Rockstar’s website, which seems to show virtual items available for purchase in Grand Theft Auto 5′s online component.

These items seem to include “cash packs” in denominations of $100,000, $200,000, $500,000 and $1.25 million.

“Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting,” the description in the XML file states.

The news has not been confirmed, but has produced a predictably angry reaction among those who dislike microtransactions, especially given that some players have struggled to earn in-game money in single-player.

Grand Theft Auto Online goes live on October 1. it will include support for up to 16 players with various modes like racing and heists, supported by a crew system. The latest whispers say the player count may have been bumped to 32.

I think it's a smart idea. They know a lot of people are going to be playing the multiplayer so people will be wanting in game currency. I won't be buying any money unless it's extremely cheap but it's a smart idea on Rockstar's behalf.

It isn't smart. Rockstar is selling out - they know people don't like microtransactions, it's obviously going to get a negative response.

They are looking for another opportunity to make money.
They wouldn't be doing it if nobody is gonna buy it.
They spent a crap ton of money to make this game and it is very good, they deserve it.

-Lamborgini I feel that buying in game currency would be more expensive as it would be fore some phone app.

I am most likely not going to purchase any in game currency because it seems like it would be a waste of time. Considering their are Banks and Heists.

Same as me I am not going to be buying the packs as I want to earn all my money from doing heists, robbing stores etc.

I agree and all the kids spending a load of cash so they can beat their friends not all the time but the majority of the time we will have to wait and see what the packs are and how much they cost I cannot see them being lower than 1 GBP but as I said we will have to wait and see.

It may be a bad idea to us the consumers as we will buy it no matter how much we hate it I for one think Rockstar deserve every penny, but I won't be buying in game currency I will just keep robbing banks etc to make my money.

Honestly, I don't like this idea, I think it ruins the whole part, of gaining the money for yourself!
