Grand Theft Auto 5 makes off with over $800 million on day one

Worldwide sales of the latest entry in Rockstar's open-world crime series, Grand Theft Auto 5, have surpassed $800 million in just 24 hours at retail. This figure represents a new day-one high for both the series and parent company Take Two Interactive.

Currently, Grand Theft Auto 5 only has a single-player component on Xbox 360 and PS3. Rockstar announced the multiplayer supplement, Grand Theft Auto Online, will launch on October 1.

That's a hell of a lot, most likely game of the year if Cod ghosts doesn't beat that.

BO2 made a billion in 17 days. So not really bad considering once gta5 beats that it will be the second fastest to a billion ever. So not really a middle finger. And cod is year round. So sales wise they still win.

Quality wise they lose...sadly


Quality over quantity, is the best way to put it! ;)

How's that a middle finger to CoD? Black Ops 2 was the biggest launch in the UK prior to GTA 5. CoD comes out every year, GTA comes out every couple of years. Do the math.

Well it will probably beat bops2 in sales, but it won't knock out the franchies. Each one makes over a billion dollars a year.
