Microsoft: PS4 is Not 30% More Powerful than Xbox One

With the launch dates of Sony and Microsoft's next generation consoles inching near, saying the two sides are entering full-bore marketing blast mode would be a gross understatement. And with new hardware comes debates over which system offers the best performance.

As reported by VideoGamer, Microsoft's director of product planning, Albert Penello, says allegations of a 30 percent advantage for the PlayStation 4 are missing the bigger picture.

"I’m not dismissing raw performance. I’m stating--as I have stated from the beginning--that the performance delta between the two platforms is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe," wrote Penello in a NeoGAF post. "There are things about our system architecture not fully understood, and there are things about theirs as well, that bring the two systems into balance."

Penello's comments were in response to concerns over the internal components of the Xbox One. The alleged performance advantage is mostly attributed to the advanced GPU and RAM found in the PS4. Penello cited the experience of Microsoft programmers in explaining how the Xbox One will succeed, despite the numbers.

Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb agreed with Penello's points in a later Reddit post. "We have some of [the] smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One," said Hryb. "I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out."

The Xbox One launches on November 22, while the PS4 launches on November 15.

Of course they would say that. Anyway, who cares though? At the end of the day, they both do what's intended. And that's running games.

I don't really care "what's more powerful" I want to see any noticeable differences in the machines, not the statistacal data

you wont be able to tell because games are just ported but still 100 bucks less for somthing that is technically more powerful....its a no brainer....

Ive never heard anyone say it was %30 better, I've heard rumours that it was more powerful but not by %30 I am sure both consoels will be great and have great features.

You won't be able to tell the difference of 30% anyway, why bother.

MonokumaPosted:

I never heard anyone say that before

Either way they will both be exceedingly good cakes lol

who said it would be that much better

We all the know the power between the consoles won't be that different. Neither company would let the other get so far ahead.

The slight difference in performance won't mean crap anyways. It's not an open source system, so regardless, the games will look identical on both consoles alike.
