Microsoft: PS4 is Not 30% More Powerful than Xbox One

With the launch dates of Sony and Microsoft's next generation consoles inching near, saying the two sides are entering full-bore marketing blast mode would be a gross understatement. And with new hardware comes debates over which system offers the best performance.

As reported by VideoGamer, Microsoft's director of product planning, Albert Penello, says allegations of a 30 percent advantage for the PlayStation 4 are missing the bigger picture.

"I’m not dismissing raw performance. I’m stating--as I have stated from the beginning--that the performance delta between the two platforms is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe," wrote Penello in a NeoGAF post. "There are things about our system architecture not fully understood, and there are things about theirs as well, that bring the two systems into balance."

Penello's comments were in response to concerns over the internal components of the Xbox One. The alleged performance advantage is mostly attributed to the advanced GPU and RAM found in the PS4. Penello cited the experience of Microsoft programmers in explaining how the Xbox One will succeed, despite the numbers.

Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb agreed with Penello's points in a later Reddit post. "We have some of [the] smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One," said Hryb. "I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out."

The Xbox One launches on November 22, while the PS4 launches on November 15.

Skeletons Well.. I'm staying with the Xbox 360. PS4 doesn't even have the games I would like to own.


It has some great exclusives, like inFamous and LBP and such, Heavy Rain was a great game aswell.

Xbox servers will never get hacked, because they have good security, unlike the PS1,2,3, and 4, but what do you expect from a Japanese company


Everything can be hacked if the individual has the correct tools, it's wrong to assume that Microsofts servers will never be hacked. With the PSN thing... It has only happened once, that's exactly like me saying "The Xbox one will get RROD because that happened to the Xbox 360"

By the way this thread: LOL, PR over at Xbox don't even know, they are only claiming they are stronger due to DirectX. They have already claimed the PS4 was stronger. Games will still be about the same on both but you can't deny the PS4 is stronger, even devs are saying that.

Someone already said this one here but I will say it again. A gears of war dev said the PS4 is 50% more powerful. A war thunder dev said the PS4 is 40% more powerful. So basically the PS4 is about 2x more powerful.
