Microsoft: PS4 is Not 30% More Powerful than Xbox One

4.8
With the launch dates of Sony and Microsoft's next generation consoles inching near, saying the two sides are entering full-bore marketing blast mode would be a gross understatement. And with new hardware comes debates over which system offers the best performance.

As reported by VideoGamer, Microsoft's director of product planning, Albert Penello, says allegations of a 30 percent advantage for the PlayStation 4 are missing the bigger picture.

"I’m not dismissing raw performance. I’m stating--as I have stated from the beginning--that the performance delta between the two platforms is not as great as the raw numbers lead the average consumer to believe," wrote Penello in a NeoGAF post. "There are things about our system architecture not fully understood, and there are things about theirs as well, that bring the two systems into balance."

Penello's comments were in response to concerns over the internal components of the Xbox One. The alleged performance advantage is mostly attributed to the advanced GPU and RAM found in the PS4. Penello cited the experience of Microsoft programmers in explaining how the Xbox One will succeed, despite the numbers.

Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb agreed with Penello's points in a later Reddit post. "We have some of [the] smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One," said Hryb. "I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out."

The Xbox One launches on November 22, while the PS4 launches on November 15.

I would say both consoles are pretty similar in terms of power. At least it won't be anything noticeable.

I don't think anyone will be able to tell a difference between speed and graphics between the two consoles.

Well I used to be a die hard Xbox fan meaning I only owned a Xbox console since 2002 and was against Sony for a long time. But slowly this gen MS has pushed me a way with all their FORCED changes. And straight away at E3 they tried to be Bullish and came out with all these policies and tried to force them onto us. But they forgot one thing, they hadn't actually sold any consoles yet.

So they had to reverse all of these becuase it had such a negative reaction. If it wasn't for Sony giving us such a good deal and console package, I can't imagine how Xbone would have turned out.

Thank god for Sony that's all I can say otherwise I would probably give up gaming.

oXXoKiiNG Like Microsoft would say the PS4 was more powerful lmao.

PS4 FTW

So was the ps3, and Xbox still had more people on live. Ps4 will be the same and now especially since you have to pay.

Honestly not trying to start an argument but the Xbox one is going to be the more popular console. You won't see a difference while playing games, and the Xbox provides the entertainment system as well. I've seen so many people say they want a console focused on just gaming and the Xbox provides that AND then some. The two companies took some ideas from each other but Sony took two of biggest ideas from Microsoft which was party chat the Visual Connection. (Don't know what it's called for PS4. But anyway, just like Hryb said, he's looking forward to the truth coming out. Microsoft has always been one step ahead of Sony and in the end, the Xbox one will be the better console.

-InsanelyAwesome- I couldn't care whether Xbox One was 100% more powerful, I would still get the PS4 and I imagine Xbox One fans will get the Xbox One despite how performance stacks up against the PS4. So this argument between Xbox and PlayStation is rather pointless to be honest.

So why do you come to a Xbox article to state that?
