Xbox One Vs. Xbox 360: Voice chat quality comparison

Microsoft has released two sound files to compare the Xbox 360's voice chat with that of the vastly improved Xbox One.

Microsoft will come bundled with a new, higher quality voice chat headset which, combined with new audio codecs, will result in far clearer voice chat between Xbox One users.

"Thanks to integration with Skype's audio codec, which has a proven track record of high-quality voice through billions of hours of use within Skype, as well as dedicated audio processing, Xbox One offers higher quality voice chat with the Xbox One Chat Headset compared to Xbox 360," said Microsoft.

"The Xbox One Wireless Controller's new expansion port dramatically expands the data transfer rate between the controller and console," it adds.

"Combined with Skype's audio codec, this enables crystal-clear digital audio with the Xbox One Chat Headset, both capturing and rendering speech at 24 KHz PCM, which is triple the rendering sample rate and a 50 percent capture rate improvement over Xbox 360 headsets."

Xbox One will launch in 13 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £430 / €500 / $500.

GAME is once again taking pre-orders for Xbox One Day One Edition consoles after halting them at the weekend.

Xbox One Day One Edition consoles come with a commemorative controller, a code to unlock an exclusive Achievement, and - in Europe - a free digital copy of FIFA 14.

For a lot of people communication is a big thing whilst gaming. I would probably never play on the Xbox if the voice quality was poor.

Plus because its a new console they are trying to improve everything they can.

Weaksauce So with skype, espn, and every other "extra" running this is going to make the games you try to play impossible to have fun with without lag.

I'm not sure if you've ever heard of RAM man. It has 8GB of RAM so multitasking should be pretty damn easy. My piece of turd laptop can play LoL with Skype running, 5 other apps running including my browser, which usually has at least 5 tabs open.

I agree. Features like this aren't exactly sellers for a system. What are sellers are exclusives and actual product (games).

Oh really? Enlighten me on how Sony is doing that right now. The only game I was looking forward to the PS4 launch was InFamous Second Son, now coming in 2014. Right now the launch games on the Xbox One look better than what Sony has at the moment.

KillZone has been awful usually and it's getting release at the worst time there is. Next to the top selling FPSs, bad move by them.

Microsoft is doing just fine with games at the moment and securing exclusive stuff, all these other features a huge plus.

Hopefully it's not exaggerated, but much difference! Hopefully the servers are well enough to have quality like that.

There is a pretty big improvement between the voice quality of the two.

It will be a nice little touch and many people complain about voice chat quality on the Xbox 360.

Because its this "stuff" that all together makes a difference, Sony focuses on raw power meanwhile Microsoft focuses on features which in the long run really improve how gaming experience effects the player.
