Sony takes responsibility for GTA5 leaks, Rockstar responds

4.2
The leak of gameplay and story details concerning Grand Theft Auto 5 stemmed from a file in the European PlayStation Store's digital pre-order download of the game, Sony and Rockstar announcements revealed yesterday.

PlayStation Social Media Manager Sid Shuman stated that the pre-order file has since been removed and apologized to "Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content."

Rockstar's statement on a Rockstar Newswire post explained it was "deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch. GTA5 represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17."

Rockstar also took the opportunity to remind Social Club community members that anyone discussing spoilers or misinformation would "have commenting privileges revoked until well after the game's release." It's nice to see Rockstar committing to providing a spoiler-free place to anticipate GTA5, but we all know how the internet handles popular media. If you're hoping to keep the game's surprises intact, consider avoiding social media until the game's September 17 release.

I like games to be surprises. That's why I don't like seeing leaked footage.

I can respect them for owning up and saying that they messed up. Although I think they did nothing wrong with allowing the users to preload the game, much like steam does.

Zuki Sony always mess up, it's ridiculous

A company wouldnt be around if they always messed up. Comments like this are dumb and should just be removed.

Its not like it wasnt going to be leaked with in these next 2 weeks.

After losing a whopping $5.7 billion last year and $312 million last quarter, Sony's recent austerity measures seem to be paying off -- the company lost only $198 million in Q2. It's been madly restructuring since CEO Kazuo Hirai came on board last year and recently shuttered a lens plant in Japan while moving its mobile HQ from Sweden to Tokyo. Altogether, 10,000 jobs cuts are projected this year by Sony to help stanch the red ink, and it looks like it's started to pay off. Notably, the company saw a drop in restructuring costs over last year, when it incurred charges during the sell-off of its display businesses.

Sony been losing money since then and they barely made 35 mil this year.
Stupid Sony leaking content. How could this of even happened?

@IndianBoymodz - Waw that's worse than I though. Sony should've just stuck with making TV's.

Microsoft should stick with making PC's and be sharp about it because Apple are knocking on the door. Xbox Fanboy be gone!

Microsoft doesn't make PCs, they make an operating system that can be ran by a PC
