Sony partners with European ISPs to deliver broadband service for PS4

4.7
At Gamescom this week, Sony announced that it will partner with several internet providers in Europe to deliver broadband service plans specifically suited for the PlayStation 4.

Sony's forthcoming partnerships with Ono, Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin Media will ensure broadband speeds of up to 200 mbps specifically for gaming purposes. The PlayStation 4 boasts content streaming as one of its tentpole features, making speedy internet service crucial for the upcoming console.

Virgin Media announced that it will offer PS4-optimized service plans in the UK following the console's launch in November.

Can't wait till Virgin Media release more info for this, I only get 2mb/s speeds and the lag on some games is terrible. Getting the package deffo, and for people saying why do you need 200mb speed because PS4 games are going to be massive in size more than likely so being able to download fast is a plus.

slapshot101 200 MBPS is a crazy number, I only have a 1mbps connection and the highest you can get in my state is 50 mbps so this is crazy to think of.

Right they are really upgrading

Getting better info every day, can't wait for this console

What is the point in this.. could someone please tell me what 'content' requires at least 200mbps to stream? I can stream 720p video without buffering on 5mbps, and I can imagine that 1080p doesn't require much more. Full games can be downloaded in under 15 minutes on fiber optic. Will PS4 games be much larger in file size?

Sony loves Europe, wow.

200mbps is mad speeds. Doubt it will happen though, they're just aiming high.

200 MB? Yeah, right...

200mbs...You can't get that in most places in the UK with fibreoptic, so i wonder how much this is going to cost.

It is going to be interesting to see what Microsoft plan to do about this.
I am certain they won't just sit back and let it happen, they have to come out with something, right?

Dr-Ponyfile I am glad Sony are doing this the number one issue in households has definatley got to be lag if they can eliminate this factor then it will become an even better console

True, lag is without a doubt the biggest fault and anger creator in gaming.
Eliminating it will be a great thing.
