Sony executive takes dig at MS, highlights consistent 'fair' policies

4.7
Sony executive Andrew House has maintained his company's defensive and snide attitude towards Microsoft by criticising inconsistent Xbox One DRM policies on stage at Gamescom 2013. During their press conference earlier today in Germany, House swiped Microsoft with a relatively direct insult:

While others has shifted their message and changed their story, we were consistent in maintaining a message that is fair and in tune with consumer desires, We strove to deliver a platform that delivers both power and great value. And the response we’ve received has been nothing short of incredible.

This strongly suggested that users should trust a platform which makes the right choice from day one, rather than one led by a company that 'flip-flops'. He was met by cheers from the audience, most of which may already have their hearts set on the PlayStation 4, which is set to be released on November 15th in the US.

Microsoft originally defended their controversial used game policy which restricted the sharing of games, but quickly retracted this policy following a considerable outcry from gamers.

Sony have a reputation of insulting Microsoft's Xbox One, notably at E3 where it announced that it would allow users to share games, and even released a video demonstrating the process, where one person hands the disc to another.

It is true, Microsoft was flip flopping all the time and it made them seem not as reliable and trustworthy, that they could switch so fast. But they did what any company would have done after the reactions of the people, if we reacted to one of the PS4's features to a high degree, then they would have changed it.

tbyeah I fail to see how listening to your consumers and changing the product based on what they want is a bad thing. That should GIVE you "trust" in a company because they care abou what the consumer wants, but to be honest, I don't buy from a company because I have "trust". I buy because they have the best product. If you are saying the reason you're buying a PS4 is "trust", stop lying to yourself. It's either because you prefer the exclusives or are a fanboy.

Listening to consumers? They just knew that few people would choose the xbox one because of their policies compared to sony's. The reason they changed it was because how much more popular the PS4 was.

Exactly. People gave them feedback that they didn't like the new policies and preferred the PS4 because of this. They listened and changed the policies.

Scared_of_Water Remember what Eric Lempel said "Sony has no plans to charge for the PSN service". Now who do you trust more a company who said they'll never make you paid to play and have or a company that remove the DRM

Good point, kind of took me a while to understand, but good point

I like a company that's straight forward with their product (Sony) rather than a company that tells people to play the last gen if they don't want DRM and tell their customers to pretty much piss off. You forgot how Major Nelson danced around every single negative question in his interviews before Microsoft finally changed their DRM policies AFTER the initial pre-order numbers were released. Sony is changing to better compete with XBL service, Micro$oft is changing to get more money and never once cared about it's consumers until after their ratings and numbers were shown. (they never listened to anyone or anything until after E3 and the pre-order numbers)

I will just leave this here.

"Insults come from insecurity that stems from low self-esteem"

It would seem Sony are sh*tting bricks lol

The issue I have right now is I haven't had any problems with MS, but have had issues with Sony, there latest firmware bricked my PS3 320gb slim & they said that its not there fault & I would need to pay 110 & give them my bricked console for a refurb. At least with MS I can buy a new console for 20 more & take my HDD & put into my new xbox, no such luck with Sony as they encrypt the HDD & store half the Firmware on the HDD, another reason I can go with Sony, if they do that again I won't be buying a PS4, to much risk involved.
