Xbox One no longer requires plugged-in Kinect, Whitten says

4.6
Xbox One does not need the Kinect sensor in order to function normally, Xbox Corporate VP Marc Whitten tells IGN. This runs contrary to previous statements: In May, Microsoft Studios Corporate VP Phil Spencer said the Xbox One would require the Kinect to be plugged in.

It's unclear whether this is a shift in policy or phrasing, but Whitten says that while ditching Kinect may limit the console's capabilities, the sensor isn't a necessary piece of equipment at all times. Instead, you'll only need it for voice- and motion-based navigation features, or to play games like Fantasia: Music Evolved, which rely on the sensor.

"Games use Kinect in a variety of amazing ways, from adding voice to control your squad mates, to adding lean and other simple controls beyond the controller, to full immersive gameplay," he says. "That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn't plugged in, although you won't be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor."

Clean out some extra space on the entertainment center or in the closet: it depends on what you play.

Starify I don't get why they won't sell it separate then. It would make the console compete the PS4 price wise.

I know it should be a accessory not a vital part.

Johnus So now all we have is an Xbox 360 v2.

So much for 'Next generation gaming'

Why do you say that? The Xbox One is still has much much improved from the 360 and so has the PS4. So I guess you can call the PS4 the PS3 V2. If you know what I mean. :D

Wagering So when they finally listen to all of your complaints you had, and fix them the way you ALL wanted it to be, you still b*tch and complain. F*cking idiots, go buy a PS4 if you're really that much of a whiner. Don't even bother with the flaming anymore, if you like Playstation, that's great. If you like Xbox, that's great too, just stop mouthing about it and make up your mind so nobody has to listen to your annoying endless rants. At the end of the day, you will get the console YOU want, just stop trying to influence others when you're indecisive yourself.

You say you get the console you want? So why are you hating on people who influence others to get a different console, it'a there money and there choice.

OT - They are still throwing it in because they will want more people to have and play connect

I completely agree! It's like they don't even know what they want their own console to be like.
Exactly if they weren't sure they should've done more polling and testing I think they were trying to just get it out there as quick as they can like last gen.
