Xbox One will allow external video capture

4.6
Microsoft’s Xbox One console will let users capture gameplay via external recording devices, Microsoft Game Studios vice president Phil Spencer has revealed to Polygon. This means that YouTubers can capture gameplay to their heart’s delight.

The Xbox One will have a High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) system, but that won’t stop players from plugging a capture device into the console’s HDMI ports.

“Yep,” said Spencer. “Exactly like it works today [on the Xbox 360].”

This means that users can capture as much gameplay as they like on an external device. However, the system will actively protect against unauthorised copies being made of content that includes HDCP.

“If all you care about is getting the gameplay, you’re fine,” Spencer said.

This follows the news that the Xbox One will be able to save the previous five minutes of gameplay internally, which players can then edit and share online.

Y2ki What if you record for a walk through and the music in the background is copyrighted does that mean it stops recording?

Maybe they will mute the sound or something? Or maybe they just will let you record it.

I agree, they would probably mute the music playing in the background, depending on where you downloaded it from and what kind of licensing you have on it. Both of the next-gen consoles are really good, still haven't decided on which one yet. I still need more information.

HUG3M0US3 Gosh only 5 minutes? is that is? most games i play have a 10 minute match (CoD)

2hrs (BF3)

I am sure people don't want to watch a boring 2 hour video of 1 game. You just record the cool stuff that you did, I like how they are doing it.

It doesn't just record 5 minutes. It will record the 5 minutes automatically so incase you want to rewatch something amazing you did you can easily! You can record as long as you want as long as you enable the recording function (keeping in mind as long s you have enough space!).

It's what I plan to do. Do something cool then say "xbox record that" then done. I wouldn't even have to cut the useless stuff out.
