Microsoft further clarifies Xbox One headset incompatibility

4.6
Existing Xbox 360 headsets are not compatible with the Xbox One, which is something we've known since May, but why exactly is that the case? Why can't John Halo and or Jane Codblops continue to make use of their hefty investment in an expensive headset brand? Well, as it turns out, the plugs are different.

"The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console," Microsoft told Game Informer in a statement. "This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input."

Microsoft goes on to say that it "plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio," though it does not say what form those solutions may take.

bigchukka I thought they would make an adapter. I hope they can but if not i guess ill buy a new one.

It's not like we have a choice, we will need to buy a new headset if they dont make that adapter. They probably wont to make some more money. Greedy.

They need to make an adapter for it so people could use their old headset, save us some money ffs.

ClearQuality1 what about if we have a wireless headset, i JUST got my Astro A50s, will those work??

The problem is plugging your headset into the controller and use it as a mic.

It will work but only if they make an adapter for it.

GGMU- Only need a convert adapter that transfer 2.5mm Jack to what ever there stupid connector is..... tons will be on ebay at release or weeks after, no doubt big companies will make them

Well, what about GAME AUDIO? That doesn't come out of the controller, so you would need way more than a 2.5 adapter. I don't see how they can make an adapter for headsets like my wire-less trittons.

Um, the vast majority of headsets use the red and white plug in your componet cables. You cant really get rid if these unless ms went to only hdmi. Which is almost as bad as the original drm policy.

But I think what you may be talking about the fiber optic port on the component cable that some really high end headsets have like the triton warheads. I cant see ms getting rid of this either though. Im sure youll be fine.
