Microsoft further clarifies Xbox One headset incompatibility

4.6
Existing Xbox 360 headsets are not compatible with the Xbox One, which is something we've known since May, but why exactly is that the case? Why can't John Halo and or Jane Codblops continue to make use of their hefty investment in an expensive headset brand? Well, as it turns out, the plugs are different.

"The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console," Microsoft told Game Informer in a statement. "This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input."

Microsoft goes on to say that it "plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio," though it does not say what form those solutions may take.

Sashagrey They are making an adapter for this though right? So it shouldn't affect anyone really.

ive not heard any news on this, it would be good if they did, but its unlikely as they want as much money as possible.

Annoying, but ill just get the standard 10 pound mic.

I-DA-KING There so stupid for saying that,

US: Can we use our headsets we spend hundreds of dollars on with your no console?

Microsoft: No, Your going to need to spend hundreds of dollars again just to talk to your friends

You're not being forced to buy a $100+ headset. You could always buy the default Xbox headset and talk to people. I only bought Astros because I'm used to wearing headphones like that.

BDB
bigchukka I thought they would make an adapter. I hope they can but if not i guess ill buy a new one.

It's not like we have a choice, we will need to buy a new headset if they dont make that adapter. They probably wont to make some more money. Greedy.

Yeah i can see why they would. It sucks though, id love to not need to buy a new headset. What about the people who went out and bought astro's? it sucks.

It's an upgrade, they don't wanna have bad voice quality giving more people reasons to complain, and give others a reason to give the system bad reviews....I'm going to buy the new headset on the release.
