EA eliminating Online Pass on existing games

As EA discontinues its Online Pass system for future games, existing passes are also getting the axe, making some content and even full games free, first on Xbox 360. Over the coming weeks, EA will get rid of Online Passes in its games, corporate communications rep John Reseburg tells Game Informer.

"As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well," Reseburg says. "We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether."

When the rollout is complete, EA Sports games will no longer prompt players to enter an Online Pass code, and other games will offer content for free, Reseburg says.

NeoGaf member MMaRsu compiled a list of Xbox 360 EA games that already offer free content once barred by the Online Pass, including a free copy of the original American McGee's Alice, Bad Company 2 VIP, Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network, and more.

It wasnt really a problem anyway because if you bought the game new then you would get the online pass inside the box

Its great that they're doing away with Online Pass, but what about the money we spent on buying the passes that are useless now? I know they cant do anything about that and I wouldnt expect them to, given the amount of people who bought the passes, but I feel a bit cheated that I had to pay for something that's now free.

Pokemon- Its great that they are doing this. I have many friends that buy pre-owned games and they don't come with these. Glad they are listening to their fans!


i had a pre owned game because they didnt have a normal one :P so i bought it and i had to buy a pass which wasted alot of time :P

Yeah it's not like IW/Treyarch never used online passes for their games?! You also forget that EA doesn't give a shit about their customers. They discontinued online passes because they can finally implement DRM-like systems and much higher fees for Xbox One and maybe PS4 games. It's very obvious but most gamers are so naive it's not even funny.
