EA eliminating Online Pass on existing games

As EA discontinues its Online Pass system for future games, existing passes are also getting the axe, making some content and even full games free, first on Xbox 360. Over the coming weeks, EA will get rid of Online Passes in its games, corporate communications rep John Reseburg tells Game Informer.

"As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well," Reseburg says. "We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether."

When the rollout is complete, EA Sports games will no longer prompt players to enter an Online Pass code, and other games will offer content for free, Reseburg says.

NeoGaf member MMaRsu compiled a list of Xbox 360 EA games that already offer free content once barred by the Online Pass, including a free copy of the original American McGee's Alice, Bad Company 2 VIP, Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network, and more.

I actually found this article when searching if it was implemented and I'm guessing they actually aren't going to get rid of it(Or I'm misunderstanding what the senior director is saying.)

[There is] no change to our decision to discontinue Online Pass. It is dead.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 doesn't have an online pass requirement does it? I don't remember ever using one on BFC2 and I played online, even bought the Vietnam DLC and was able to play it.

Does anyone know if they have implemented this yet? I have heard from some people that you don't need a pas anymore but other say you do. I really just can't wait to play Battlefield 3 Multiplayer without paying.

Same, I had to buy an online pass for several games but I still saved money though, since they're second hand :)


I never bought a pre-owned EA game but I did buy a online pass for Battlefield 3 because I didn't look in the manual for the online pass and then realized it was there the whole time D:


LOL, waste of your money! I did that with Skate 3 at first :/ We make the same mistakes.


It wasn't that big of a deal for me. I think it was 800 MSP so only $10.


Well 10$ could save your life if you think about it :)


Ehh I work so $10 really isn't anything off my back. Still I felt stupid that I didn't at least look for the online pass.

iAmplified I'm glad to see this, it would always suck when you buy a used game that doesn't have an online pass.
Good thing that online passes are being discontinued.
