Xbox One Controller will last ten years - Microsoft

4.3
After subjecting the Xbox One controller to rigorous testing, Microsoft claims it will last ten years.

Accessories and hardware manager for Microsoft, Bob Brown, told Pocket-Lint that the aim was to create a controller that would last ten years - the projected lifespan of the Xbox One.
Brown explains that when testing the Xbox One Controller, "each button gets pressed over and over, between 4-5 times a second," while the thumbsticks are also tested with repeated use.

The test determines not only how the controller can withstand vigorous button mashing, but also whether each button delivers the right result, regardless of how many times it has been pressed.

The controllers are also dropped repeatedly in order to determine shock points, and to ensure the inside is not damaged on collision.

The Xbox One controller has been finalised, however Brown says testing is still ongoing. Currently, the controller can handle over 3 million button presses, which Brown claims is over the target.

I see everyone in the comments section talking about how they've broken controllers...I've had my controller for the best of 4 years now and I've had no problems with it, it's been dropped numerous times and heck it's been scratched at too.

If you're going to complain about a controller breaking after being thrown at a wall or at the floor, that really isn't microsofts fault, they're designed to take drops, not full force throws at walls and floors guys. If you're breaking controllers against your house, you've got a much bigger problem than having to buy Xbox controllers.

THANK GOD. All of my controllers have nothing but plastic for the thumb sticks.
